The Avalanche have locked up a pair of their own defensemen less than 24 hours
before the NHL's free agent deadline. Veteran Adam Foote signed a 2 year deal and John Michael Liles got a 4 year deal worth a reported $16.8 million.
"When they came to me with that offer and the opportunity to sign for 4 years,
there's no where else that I would want to be." Liles almost didn't make it to
this point. He struggled to start the season, and there were trade rumors at
the deadline.
Many months later, the 27-year-old who has played his entire
career with the Avalanche, is relieved and thrilled to be staying in Denver.
"Being around my
family when it happened and agreeing to it, I think some of the neighbors from
across the lake definitely heard me screaming after it was all confirmed."
