Governor Charlie Crist told state agency heads that he wants construction projects sped up so more money can be pumped into the sluggish state economy.
The Governor said there is $28.6 billion in unspent construction money that has been approved during the past 10 years for new schools, road construction, water projects, prisons and more.
"It's almost $30 billion that can stimulate this economy significantly and create new jobs and that's why we have to move faster," said Crist, who is calling the effort "Accelerate Florida."
During the past two weeks, Crist has traveled the state on what he calls a listening tour on the economy.
House Democratic Leader Dan Gelber said: "It's not a bad idea. It is important to spend money in Florida's economy right now. It's important to keep people employed."
Crist also wants the state to find ways to streamline license and permit applications to help private businesses.
I know you libs hate him, but he is a damn good governor, and he is doing his very best for our state.
If you don't think so, tell me who would be doing a better job. Intelligently. Stupid jokes do not count.

I pledge allegiance, to the flag, of the United States of America. And to the Republic, for which it stands, one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.
Does anyone have a problem with this pledge????
I have commented on the blog of one that seems to have a very major problem with this pledge.
All my comments were deleted on the blog of a very similar title.
Charli seems to think only her point of view is worthy of reading. She has a problem with "God" being included.
However, she also skipped over the part that says liberty for all. I think she believes that applys only to her.
Sorry Charli. Even you cannot delete me here.
All have a right to comment here, with no fear of being deleted. Even you.

Think again! How cheap was it? Here are gas prices adjusted for todays dollars.
18 cents in 1932 would adjust to $2.87 per gallon today.
25 cents in 1941 would adjust to $3.72 per gallon today.
10 cents in 1948 (Right after WW2) would adjust to 91 cents per gallon today.
32 cents in 1952 would adjust to $2.64 per gallon today.
The people in Europe pay FAR more than we do!
Are we paying too much for gas?
Or are we spoiled to the point of expecting it to be almost free?

If the presidential campaigns continue to develop along this current direction, "our worst fears" will become a reality. Race and Faith (religious) are the two least worthy "planks in a platform" anyone could imagine. Let us hope that "discretion becomes the better part of valor" and they drop this insidious course while they still can.
It is enough that both candidates have so little to commend them but when they reduce an election to the lowest possible level, nothing positive whatsoever will come of it. Most of us hoped these two senseless issues were left in the political dustbin of the past. To see them both reappear in this Century is abhorrent to people of all races and religion. It is worth a letter to both party's campaign chairmen to "cease and desist" this divisive, direction.

With the sale of the "King of Beers" (Budweiser) to a Belgium brewery, among a plethora of other industries, what is to be said about U.S. industry moguls? These companies made their profits here in the U.S. but at the first offer of a "buy out," they sell to the highest foreign bidder. How focused on America is that? Usually, high corporate taxes determine the sale of domestic industry which foreign investores have no problem absorbing [because their "taxes" are much higher abroad].
It appears that many Americans have lost faith in the U.S. economy to satisfy their profits. But that isn't the only issue! American citizens are now facing two diametrically opposed candidates for the Presidency. One can offer little more than increasing federal taxes and the other, little more than decreasing federal programs for the poor, destitute and/or illegal residents. Election 2008 will determine where Americans place their priorities. We must either accept slums and poverty as a natural condition (as in the past) or accept paralyzing taxes which socialized government requires.
Please post your comments on this topic. We still have a right to free speech! So far....

Mr Douglas Chick has decided to lock out all comments other than the one made by zeker, which I believe is him also. If you don't believe me, just try to post a comment on his "McCain: Doddering Old Fool" post.
The only comment you will see is zeker. No other comments are allowed. TRY IT!
This is worse that disabling comments. This is worse than any one sided blog I have ever seen in my life. This is true dictatorship, and the most blatant violation of free speech I have ever seen in all my years. I am shocked.
I thought this person was intelligent, but it seems as though he just wants to shove his agenda down everyones throat, and is not even ashamed to use his cat for this purpose.
How dreadfully pathetic this is.
Is this a sign of future liberal tactics?
I most certainly hope not!

A Hillsborough County sheriffs deputy is being held for a mental evaluation after authorities say he used a Taser on his wife.
Thirty eight year old Carlos Thomas Tanner is a ten year veteran of the department.
Tanner was arrested and charged with felony aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and misdemeanor battery. The Sheriffs Office says Tanner had been drinking when he got into a fight with his wife. Authorities say he took a Taser from his duty belt and used it three or four times on her abdomen, burning her.
He has been placed on administrative leave without pay.
Can you believe this?
What should happen to him for his reckless disregard of his wife's physical well being?

Manuel Castillo was driving through Alabama hauling onions and left with a $500 ticket for something he didn't think he was doing. Speaking English poorly!
Castillo, who was stopped on his way back to California, said he knows federal law requires him to be able to converse in English with an officer, but he thought his language skills were good enough to avoid a ticket.
Still, Castillo said he plans to pay the maximum fine of $500 rather than return to Alabama to fight the ticket.
Federal law requires that anyone with a commercial driver's license speak English well enough to talk to police.
Authorities last year issued 25,230 tickets nationwide for violations. Now the federal government is trying to tighten the English requirement, saying the change is needed for safety reasons.
Do you think Not being able to speak English is a safety hazard if one is driving a big rig?
