IMHO, the recent drop in gasoline prices is the only piece of good economic news. With all of the doom-and-gloom, this cannot help but have a positive influence on the economy in general as it serves to put more money in the wallets of consumers - in much the same manner as a "stimulus check".

Well, along come our good buddies at OPEC. It seems that they are perturbed by the drop in the price of crude oil. So, true to form, OPEC is supposed to meet tomorrow (Friday) to discuss production cuts in order to shore up the price.

Once a terrorist, always a terrorist. It really doesn't matter if they're destroying our economy by flying airliners into skyscrapers OR by manipulating the price of oil which has a direct impact on the economy (remember the evil speculators?). So, just when there may be a beacon of light at the end of the recessionary tunnel, here's OPEC to squelch it.

You people that do not wholeheartedly support Newt Gingerich's "Drill Here, Drill Now, Pay Less" are MORONS. And THAT's a FACT!

Morons? Nah. They just don't get it and that's common. It's all a question of balance and some use different scales. Mine are made here, theirs in China.

Good post..I couldn't believe it when I heard that. The terrorist from within don't want us to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Live in gloom and doom is what they have for us.

OPEC s**ks!

I think majority of the American people get it, It is the Democrats in Congress that don't get it.
Remember Pelosi's statement "over my dead body" "I've got a planet to save"?
They actually believe higher prices are good to "curve" our gasoline use. If Obama is elected, not only will we face higher oil prices controlled by OPEC, but we will face steeper taxes imposed by our own government in an effort to force us to drive less. But they seem to forget that the majority of Americans have to commute to get to work; for them driving is not a luxury but a necessity.

They announce a cut in production and STILL the price drops today! Wow! You have to love how a market works sometimes! There's so much less demand(world wide) right now that even a cut in production can't halt the price drop!

Even as the despots of OPEC voted to cut their daily production of crude by 1.5 million barrels a day beginning next month the futures market which is what has been pushing up or driving down the price of crude went down another 4+ dollars. Iran's #2 moron says that the days of cheap oil are over. They may well be, however, market dictates see it differently even if just for the moment, it feels good to see the moron squirm. It doesn't matter if oil is $160.00 a barrel if no one can afford to buy it. These OPEC producers don't seem to grasp that yet and maybe, just maybe, this will force some bright types to come up with an alternative fuel that is easily transposible to cars on the road that will eliminate the need for most crude and they all can drown in it. We can wish, can't we?

Actually, the payback point for alternative energy has just been made harder. That is to say, the cheaper oil gets, cheaper these new sources need to be in order to viably replace them. Example, solar cells needed to be 65% efficient to make the cost competitive with oil. Now they might need to be 85% efficient. I might be off with those pecentages but you get the idea.

We need a different motivation to obtain new energy sources. Global warming didn't work because it has been proven false. We need to look at long term monetary costs now.

Let me try that again, I must have pushed a wrong key

Hey M

In the short run that may be true, however, I believe the majority of us know that the days of $1.50 gas are over and it will only be a matter of short time till the price futures skyrocket again. You know supply/demand and all that. There isn't a solar cell out there that can power a current vehicle at highway speeds for any distance (I just dont know of any) and for whatever reason no one even wants to look at CNG (compressed natural gas) which costs about 40% less and we have in abundance. Current alternative energies are great for homes, business or generating electricity BUT, so far, the only electric car is too expensive for most of the public to buy and the Chevy Volt isnt coming out till 2010 (I think) and it only goes 40 miles on a charge. So fo the moment oil is all we got and we better get to drilling and pumping or those bright types come up with something.

I am your normal, middle-class, "working Joe". But I am also a capitalist and believe that nothing good comes from socialistic entitlement programs. I believe in hunting down and killing terrorists like the little rats that they are (except that that statement is denigrating to rats). I grew up in a very conservative household and was fortunate enough to have had a conservative American Government teacher (a retired US Army colonel) who helped to show me the "right" way. Are there things that I would like to change? Absolutely. But NOT the kind of "change" being espoused by Hillarock Obaminton. I have lived in Florida for forty of my forty-eight years. I've been a big Pink Floyd fan since my teen years hence the moniker, FloydFreak. My friends call me Freak, Floyd, and FF. The libs call me a neocon. I wear that badge proudly. Please note that I enjoy engaging in spirited discussion - even with those with whom I disagree. There are a number of individuals on these boards whom I respect even if I DO think that they're out of touch with reality. Please note also that I do not tolerate personal attacks on my character. If you think that I'm full of BLEEP, you have the right to say so. But drag my character into the gutter and expect retaliation in kind with FloydFreak's own brand of sarcasm. Keep it civil and we'll get along fine. To those of you that see good in America and want the OPPORTUNITY for prosperity for all - and do not just seek to soak it to "the rich", I say God bless you. And God bless America!
