I recently moved to a suburb that is big on recycling. Those big blue baskets are out all over our neighborhood each Wednesday morning, and I feel good about doing the same. I've become more conscious of it, even digging through my own trash when guests are around, making sure we're doing our part and recycling as much as we can. It's like dumpster diving for Earth! ha!

There is no program where I live, unless I choose to pay a small fortune. I like my money and don't want to give anymore away then I need to. I do recycle though... I have 8 baskets (laundry style) that I have all my materials sorted in to. once a month I do the bulk of my sorting and take the baskets to a collection center 10 miles from my home. On the return trip I usually stop with the family and treat them (and myself) to 31 Flavors. It's out of the way and it I have to take time out to drive all the way to the center but my environment is worth it. I know I'm doing my part and thats great. I just wish I could do more...

Ok I dont know how much this is on the recycle scale, but I hate to throw away toys, clothes that are perfectly good but my kids dont use or fit anymore! I make drop offs to my neighbors church, they have a soup kitchen there on thursdays where even familys come. While they are there they can get things they need that people donate. My church also takes things but certain times a year, holidays mostly, and the sisters of life are in my church, they collect things often for young mothers in need.

My mom lives in an adult home, and many of the people there rarely get family visits, so I always bring men and womens clothes when I can.

People call me all the time asking me if they could give me things to give away for them.

That always makes me feel good.

Patrick - that is a great line - "dumpster diving for Earth"...... I try and lately I have been trying harder and really critiqueing my garbage and whatever I have and can it be used for something else.....
Sorry, I forgot for a moment this is a feel good blog. Okay, when the grandbabies come over on Saturday to drive me nuts, I feel great (tired and exhausted) when they are here, after I can feed them, give them tubbies, change them into pjs - and giving them their evening snack. They are all shinny, smelling good and squeeky clean and pink and rosey and -being nice to each other - that warms the insides of my heart - so wonderful you could actually cry - I love them so much, the extensions of my child, my daughter Michelle.....

StLouis -- congrats on going that extra mile, (or, in your case, 10 miles :-) ) but you have me intrigued -- 8 different varieties?

Let me guess:
1. paper
2. glossy paper
3. cardboard
4. cans
5. plastics
6. clear glass
7. green glass
8. brown glass

How did I do?

I'm moving to Florida -- they give you one, count it, one container for everything.

Every state is doing something different. We need a national recycling policy. We need to start getting serious on this issue.

Bronx girl - I haven't heard Oy vey in 40 years since I left Brooklyn - you brought back great memories - Is selzer still delivered?

I have boxes filled with stuff too good to throw out - with price tags on them - doing a local flea market on Sunday. Tuesday morn all the stuff I didn't sell goes to the local church to sell. Good clothing to welfare for people to look nice looking for a job. Got great money for an old dresser and chest/drawers at an auction house. New house law - NO ONE can bring any gift to me that I have to either feed or dust!

Oh, Angel doesn't want to give up any of her toys even tho she doesn't play with them. Took them out of the boxes. Sits there guarding her toy basket. Oh well, she doesn't ask for much from me, does help me with my work.
