In all fairness to our service men and woman, we need to review the people selected as candidates for President this year. We read how our military had been placed into battle without the proper armor protection, where the security of our base camps were compromised and the lack of review and repair of problems with quarters for those in battle.
But where does the fault lie in these problems? Every candidate up for election is a public servant, they have access to all reports, both good and bad, from weapons to quarters and housing safety, yet why is there no oversight by our elected officials ? They set the times that they sit in the house and decide our laws and bill's then go home, write books and campaign for election funds and votes, yet the very things they profess to stand for and keep resolve on are neglected and people , including our military personnel, die or are injured.
Staff Sgt. Ryan Maseth is a victim of this error, the US Army and Navy, both have construction and engineer divisions, where are they ? and why are our military subject to civilian contractors while we have these divisions at our disposal? Civilian contractors use the excuse of certain jobs not being in a contract as the reason for construction and repair safety, yet the difference is not set to the responsibility of military engineers, but let to neglect and not addressed until a mishap or tragedy occurs. He died on January 2nd, yet we are just finding out publicly and it seems his family are deceived about how he died.
Staff Sgt. Ryan Maseth's death was not only a tragedy, it was the loss of one of the best our military produced and the loss of one of the few that could be depended on in any instance to provide leadership and execution of orders that would have, and did, make a difference in battle and planning. We have great service men and women, but the loss of this man places a huge void in the US Army, not to mention his family. May God Bless him and his family.
Our Congress and President approve the budget for this war, it is also their responsibility to direct these funds to the proper place for distribution and commit oversight to ensure the funds are applied to the proper places. Not too long ago Congress gave themselves a raise, what exactly did we get for this, not more time on the hill, nor an increase in resolve to better America or our military, yet here we are voting for them as President of our nation. They continue to prove to us that they are not willing to oversee their decisions, so why do they expect us to believe that they can lead us into a better future.
Staff Sgt. Ryan Maseth was a great American and his death was an even greater loss.!!

This weekend we honor our veterans who died in service of our country. Many Americans have the weekend off, go on picnics or visit family and friends, then there are those families that must endure the remembrance of loved one's lost in defense of freedom and the American way of life.
The patriotic call for men to fight from the first Continental Congress and those knowing designers of our first national laws ring true in our hearts, that we live in a free country, and a country that is frequently called upon to ally those country's less able to defend themselves against aggressors.
The succession of wars and battles sense then have made America a fearsome thought in the minds of warlords and dictators throughout history and the world and it has become a point for those who would take from others to find loopholes in resolutions that force other democratic countries to take sides or remain neutral in battles fought due to genocide or oil, that we become in the minds of the world, what we strive to fight against and the fight for freedom and democracy is but an excuse to benefit big business.
There is no easy answer and the complications of government and human nature continue to walk a thin gray line in such a way that military service and the men and woman in that service sacrifice life and limb in the professed defense of our country, and when the job is done, society feels that our warriors need be put away until the next war or taken out for this coming day of honor to walk in parade.
Those military service personnel that do survive and are released from active duty often find that the job's and home's they once knew are not the same, some cannot mentally handle the horrors of war, the loss of friends that served with them, or to shake the recurring visions of what a land mine or bomb has done to someone they knew. many family members are reluctant to talk to their son's and daughter's about those horrors on the chance that it would bring back bad memories, or that they feel that they themselves could not handle what a son or daughter lived.
It takes a strong American indeed to walk away from a life, a carrier and a family to serve in our military and sacrifice a certain freedom to defend a freedom, a country and the freedom of others and i can think of few greater sacrifices.
Some of our veterans are left homeless, some are dependant on our VA hospitals, some start new carriers and some are able to go back to life as they knew it, but what is a greatfull nations obligatation to to these men and women, to those who gave their lives, to those missing in action and to those who became prisoners of war.
Our Nation has had a military before it was a nation and we still have no viable plan to repay a debt owed, our veteran benefits are limited, some cannot even be used due to credit problems. Our dependants benefits are subject to the whims of Congress and the President, the winds of change and budget cuts are always a concern and a stress on veteran families, the disabled suffer a dual hardships of loss of limb, sight, sound or mental facilities and the financial constraints that prevent them from enjoying a life that was left behind before military service, the fishing, hunting and vacations once enjoyed.
Memorial day should not be just a day of remembrance, but a day of resolve also. Congress and the sitting President should find that resolve, and commit laws that enable a greatfull nation to give fair gratitude to those who died in service of our country, those still missing in action and those veterans whom must live in wars aftermath.
Memorial day is a day of remembrance, but what do the families of the Americans who died in service to our country actually think about when they visit the graves and the walls of honor built by charitable donations, do they ask why, and what the sacrifice of loved one's actually accomplished? do they think of gas prices, food costs and if their sons and daughters actually died in defense of freedom, or do they shake their heads and know deep down that a commodity was the actual reason for their loss.
God bless our military service personnel, and those whom died in service to our country.

Flag lapel pins;
There is an ongoing argument concerning flag lapel pins and if they should be worn by our elected officials. This argument is compared to wedding rings and the like.
The American flag is and has always been the icon of the United States of America, it represents the American people and the ideals of freedom and liberty, it is the bases of every patriotic quote, from, these colors don't run, to, the pledge of elegance, and it represents our National Anthem when it cannot be said in battle or in defense of American freedom and democracy.
Our election system allows Americans to vote for candidates that best support and promote the ideals of America and it's people. Elected officials of America from the President down to the town mayor are representatives of everything America stands for, they should not deter from the basics of our Constitution, nor should they believe more in political party guidelines than the people that they are suppose to represent.
They should not take it upon themselves what laws to enforce and not enforce, or what country to send aid to before the basic requirement of the needs of every American citizen is addressed and administered as they have sworn to do. Their personal belief's should be set aside during their term of office, nor should they appoint officials to government service based on those belief's rather than finding people with the ability to best serve the people and the betterment of American society.
To distinguish between the conservative and the liberal representative is the start of division in America, it continues and promotes racism, working classes, bigotry, segregation and double standards that literally destroy America from within, it frustrates Americans and increases stress within each of us, then those Americans that are mentally challenged to some degree, but not any noticeable degree, or those to overwhelmed by harships are forced in their own minds to lash out, which becomes domestic terrorism, in reality, when America says that it will not submit to terrorist threats, it is saying that those Americans that suffer hardships due to the division caused by officials and their party's belief's, are saying that their own standards are more important than the American people and the American way of life and thereby oppose what they should be defending by neglecting Americans and their basic rights and needs.
These political parties took the Pledge of Allegiance from our schools, they took God from government, they are taking our national security, our economic security, our freedom of American culture and our right to life. When an American woman conceives the child is not only a life, but an American, which is suppose to be protected under the Constitution and also the child, like every other American, is protected under the American flag and all it is suppose to represent.
The Ten Commandments are the bases of every law we have, yet they are forbidden to be seen, or allowed to influence our children down the right path of life, that is left to the parents, whom for the most part are too busy and exhausted from working several jobs and searching for their family's pursuit of happiness, the American dream, preventing foreclosure, finding money to pay for gas to get to work, to put food on the table, pay for family healthcare and fighting insurance companies for claims on accidents and natural disasters. Once a child learns to read, they have a guide in those Commandments that tell them of a higher law, it becomes an awareness in their subconscious and guides them throughout their lives'.
Our military service personnel all have American flags on their battle dress, do politicians require that only Americans who give their lives for our country wear them, are they telling us that they are not willing to do so by not wearing lapel pin flags. Do we need another terrorist attack on our soil before the American flag rises again?
I submit that any politician who places party guideline's above the Ten Commandments, US Constitution, Declaration of Independence and the Bill of Rights are not worthy to represent the American people, and that the reluctance to wear the American Flag lapel pin is an indication of their lack of respect for America, the support of our military, law enforcement and all that America stands for, which holds true under the the protection of the American flag, and i call on Americans to speak out to these officials and demand that Americans and America be first and foremost in their hearts and intentions, and to prove that every day by wearing the flag lapel pin. A cross lapel pin wouldn't hurt either.

Politics and political parties are the reason for the economic downfall of America, Elected officials are so use to the industrial complex, favors owed to Corporate donators, party guidelines and the seven deadly sins that go hand in hand with human nature, that they have all lost sight of the reason for government service and the unwillingness to separate the differance between power and serving the people.
The US government has an obligation to it's citizen's, this is guarenteed by the Constitution, many would argue that the low class and poverty level Americans are the burden on tax payers only second to illegal immigration, but like it or not the American people ar granted rights by law and until there is a law stating that the citizen burden on the tax payer is too much and null and void, the US government has a responcibility to each and every American, and with that, this is my idea;
The US government should advritise to financial institutions for bids to finance housing for low and poverty level American families, the bids would have guidlines that limit the interest hardship that keep most families in the red, the houses sold under this plan will have a special law that forbids foreclosure and allows the sale or transfer to another needy family should the original buyer default or move. There should be no red tape involved and an ongoing title search on the home would be enacted to prevent any long term wait. The payments would be adjusted to the family income and not be penalized or the payment adjusted due to physical modification of the home.
Second mortgages are prohibited in this plan and homeowner insurance is to be combined into the mortgage payment. There are many other provisions and restrictions involved, but the idea is sound and it costs the taxpayer nothing, as the mortgage holder is provideing the financing.
This is beneficial in several ways. It gives the parent/s the ability to save money and provide for the child/children so that the family can live in a certain amount of harmony, it ruduces stress within the family and give the child/children an above average chance for a healthy upbringing. A provision may be added to allow the child/children to have a chance to go to college. This plan will also have an influance on the economy, as it gives the family more money with which to shop.
I do not ask for critics to try and cut down this plan, but to add ideas to make it better, but then, any observation is welcome.....

To each of us God gives a gift of talent, we give back to God, by
using that talent to the best of our abilities. In politics, elected officials and candidates are suppose to work for the people, to best serve the people and the country. When an official strays from that path, he or she no longer respects the gift from God, nor the people they represent, which only means they are after the power of office.
The citizens of the US should, and must be, the first priority of any elected official, illegal immigrants flood the country and burden the resources, major corporations leave the US for and cheaper labor and reduced taxes, only to expect the US and it's citizens to buy their products and ignore the unemployment hardship left by those companies. There is super cleanup programs that the taxpayer is expected to foot the bill on, while the companies that left the problem pay a small fine and a slap on the wrist, or just file bankruptcy and do business through a sub corporation, that laws prevent assumption of responsibility.
The trade deficit and copyright infringements that go before Congress and the President are decided, not to the benefit or relieving the burden on the taxpayer, US companies and their employee's but on keeping foreign countries happy. To allow chemical mining and destroying rivers and contaminating ground water is not in the best interest of the health and welfare of the people. Allowing insurance companies to force consumers to fight for claim payouts in court is not in the best interest of the people.
Foreclosure, healthcare, war, credit interest rates, fuel and gas prices, food prices, energy and social security are decided on what is best for corporations and the dollar, not for the people, but the people harbor the burden and are expected to go on with life and deal with the stress. Very few elected officials live the life of the middle class and below, or the disabled, yet we always hear from them that they understand what we are going through, and yet, bills are voted on with additions on them that benefit campaign contributors and are argued and vetoed, and the citizen must wait and suffer through the process then one party blames another for the problem and delay.
When an elected official is being sworn in, they are agreeing to protect the Constitution of the United States of America, which is the people of this country, not foreign countries or trade, or even illegal immigrants, they are sworn to preserve the laws of the US also, even to amend them to help and serve the public, this almost never happens and yet we continue to vote for a party member, continue to live in denial and believe that the "change" that is coming will be different.
We need to form county candidate action commitees that will provide checks and balances on our elected officials, to make sure that the bills they are voting on are what we, as their constituants want, and vote the way we want them to vote. To provide phone and e-mail contact to forward problems and needs to our district officials, and to voice our concerns.
Letting our representitives lead the way is not working, letting them design bills and giving them a free hand ends up hurting us in the long run. I recently read our paper, that Rep. Gail Schwartz is excited about a new bill that she is drafting to build new schools, but there was nothing on school security, replaceing lost edication departments from budget cuts, or limiting Superintendant retirement packages, should i get excited with her, or ask that she present her drafted bill to our distict before submitting it, to see if we want what she is trying to sell.
This example is what happens all over our country, in every political party and from the President on down to the town Mayor. We are givin a little, so campaign contributers can get alot, we need to stop this and regain control of government.

Aren't you tired of the same old politics year after year, when are you going to report the news, and i don't mean re-runs. i mean, in the memory of E. Murrow, investigate the democratic and republican parties, learn the truth about them, the inside scoop, that they are not made for, and do not work for democracy, nor Americans, they make their own rules and are not answerable to election laws. The middle, low and poverty class of Americans are little else but pawns, to be used by corporate America, given just enough to survive, but not enough to pursue happiness. if aliens came to strip the earth of resources it would be little difference than what is happening now, we have just enough money to live, just enough air to breath, just enough, so far, land to hike, and camp, just enough wildlife to enjoy, our water is contaminated with cyanide and other chemicals used to mine minerals, and just enough fear to consider whether we should bring a child into the world.
Corporate America has already started to show its true colors by moving out of the US and into more profitable labor resources'. They have taken the labor and sweat of America and used us for profit, never considering loyalty to those who made them great and that habit has moved over to political parties, first brainwashing Americans then laughing at our denial. To give you an example, i recently changed from republican to Independent, i tried to run for Mayor of my town and was told i had to wait a year, as i had changed parties and though i had developed many plans to benefit my town and community, it mattered not, i also requested an aid to help, as i have a sevier hearing loss, then the town did everything possible to fight my nomination, oh, by the way, i was nominated, they ended up canceling the elections except for playing musical chairs and we now have a new Mayor and two trustees. There is no voice for the middle and lower classes, and even less for the disabled. I had NO help, only myself in that fight.
Don't be a broken record year after year, Find the truth and save America...

The threat of terrorism will always be with us, more from an eye for an eye, than anything else. There should be a council of religious leaders, i don't mean who each religion choses to represent themselves, but leaders that will sit down and find a common ground, that have influence in most or all aspects of their belief's and who the public at large will listen to.
I am not saying that terrorist have any right to do the things they do, they know they are wrong and with human nature involved, they don't require much to be set off, but we need to start listening, instead of waiting for the next attack, we need to think prevention, once we accomplish that, then it will be easier to negotiate for those who are responcible for past attacks.
I don't know who should host the council, or what guidelines need be set down, but the council should be perminant and once these leaders state the problems and concerns, i believe we will see results. All we think of is war and to continue on this course will surely end in a tragedy like the world has never seen.
In the beginning there was God, we cannot live without God, and we cannot continue to kill and destroy in Gods name.

I read that Foreclosure is at an all time high, that it costs $ 50-60,000.00 to foreclose a home, why does the Government allow this to happen. A family's home is, for the most part, their American dream, their pusuit of happyness, it is discracfull that our elected officials have allowed this to happen. A family works, pays taxes, lives by the law and for that they are thanked with a eviction notice, their children suffer stress, loss of friends and depression from something they do not understand, if a parent throws a child out of the home, it is abuse, what is it to the government?.
The law should change to forbid foreclosure from a job change, and to reduce interest and the payment to a percentage of the family's income and to freeze payments and interest if the breadwinner becomes ill and cannot work, with a doctor certification. If a family has to move to find work, then the house should be allowed to be sold and payments reduced, or just a payment of interest until the home can be sold.
A family's home is their life, it is a place to go when your in trouble, it is a place for sunday dinner, a place for the holidays, it is your childs college fund and to save for retirement, it is a place to put things you collect, your personal museum and a few walls for happy memories. Your children know to find you there, that it is safe for them, and it is the first place they go when they are born.
The home is your way of investing in America, you pay the taxes and recieve your tax refund there, so what can you expect from the government for the honesty, respect and the investment in your country? not much, just more struggle if you make a misstake or lose, or are forced to change your job. The American government has failed to say thank you to Americans for their investment, and unless you die for your country, there is no thanks at all. The United States
Government should show their appreciation for the very citizens that made it what it is today, and the one way for them to do that is, let those Americans who chose a home as their American dream and their pursuit of happyness be allowed to keep it and to continue to trust their government.
The US government needs to say thank you............

After reading the CNN news report of our candidates and their healthcare plans i wonder if they ever think out of the box. each candidate plan has its pros and cons, but the end result would be to raise taxes in other programs in order to give tax breaks in healthcare, or cancel other programs altogether.
I googled closed hospitals and those on the verge of bankruptcy and found too many to believe, including the effect on the communities and the overcrowding of nearby hospitals in good shape. The problem is not health care itself, but the complication of politics and the singling out of certain aspects of healthcare as a whole, insurance, doctors, nurses, hospitals and clinics.
I then thought of our military and its medical corps, and formed an idea. we have a basic military budget that is mandatory, war or not. I propose that the medical corps assume these closed and bankrupt hospitals and clinics and open them to American citizens with no health coverage, the training of corpsmen in this area would be beneficial to both the medical field and provide advanced knowledge should they decide to stay in that field upon separation from service, as an added bonus, there would be qualified field doctors available to communities in the event of disaster or terrorist attack within our borders.
Our tax dollars suffer from these hospital and clinic bailouts, then the buildings are vacant and we have to pay for demolition or give huge tax breaks to corporations willing to buy them up and restart them. This plan will cost less, provide work for medical professionals hurt by closures and provide a much needed service to the communities and Americans without healthcare insurance.
Many will complain of the possibility of a military society, but with reasonable oversight and a bill forbidding involvement by the NSA and CIA it will work, it will cost much less than any plan being presented by the candidates running for President

The Presidents war in Iraq should have ceased when Sadam was captured, everything past that moment has been a gamble and Mr Bush developed a gambling problem, with a seemingly unlimited bankroll and a get out of jail free card.
At the capture of Sadam he should have sent our representitives and established a capitol in the green zone, then set up a basic government, sectioning off the seperate religious parties as states and developed a treasury from the country's commodity of oil and then held elections, pulled the troops and left advisors. The sad part of this, is that he expected to change a 5,000 year old culture into his idea of a democracy in five years, it took America 200 years and we still haven't got it right.
What developed was to my thinking was Mr Bush wanting a position from which to keep an eye on Iran, due to whatever intllegence he was getting at the time, the gamble is still being played, possibly in the hopes of a bigger win in the form of Bin Laden and at the cost of some 60,000 civilians, but that is nothing compared to the estimated 2 million killed in the Vietnam war.
The fix can still be done, it can be organized and my guess, is that the bombings, kidnappings and killings will stop. The President has proved to his citizens and the world that his resolve is unbreakable, but will it continue to affect our nation after he is gone, and for how long. Will his replacement take office with common sense, or will he or she be subject to repaying corporate America the favors of winning the election and continue to be led by the war industry. Are we ready for the next President to continue pissing off the world, or will the next President allow the UN to do its job.

In todays world there seems no easy answer to any problem, yes we could round up the illegals and ship them out, but then we would just find them again within a year. so the answer does not lay there. i propose that we trade the debt Mexico owes us for Baja, then develop a program that will provide jobs, build low income housing, plan resort type communities and industry according with environmental impact laws.
Mexico refuses to care for its people and promotes illegal immigration into America, the US cannot take care of its own people, hurting the middle class and keeping the low and poverty class in sufferage, we can provide food to a new community from allowing farmers to grow and reducing substidies. the money saved by Not having to transport and process, feed and medical for illegals will be enough to start a program with the Mexican government, it needs to be regulated and oversight would have to be heavy, with the benifits going to those whom need jobs and homes, amnesty would be enacted for that purpose only, that they seek the jobs in Baja.
This unfortunately is the only answer that does not lead to inhumane treatment, which deporting illegals obviously leads to. We suffer the problem due to political partys fear of offending the donators and this will always be the case, there is always an answer, we just have to look for it.
I look for answers and would beat any candidate running in solutions... John Hargis Sr

its 8:23 am, Church is in 2 hours and I contimplate my prayers. i know that I will ask God to Bless and forgive the sins of my parents and older brother whom have passed, my cousin John Lee. who died in the Navy from a helo crash and his father that passed 3 years earlier. I will pray for my three sons, that they have a happy and prosperous life, my three brothers and one sister, still living, though they are barely getting by. I pray for the troops, both living and dead overseas or here, i will pray for the veterans, that they will recieve their just due from our government. I will pray for the President and law makers in Washington, that they see right from wrong and maybe God will speak to them in their concience, that they stop hurting the people that keep this country safe and prosperous, as stupidity is not limited to a 60 or below IQ. I pray for a country safe from terrorists, bothe foriegn and domestic.
Then i pray for myself, that the bruse on my spine from a broken neck heals, that i can get my ruptured L 5 disk repaired, that I can find a way to have hearing implants to repair my 70 % hearing loss. That i can find a job to suppliment my income, so i can afford to see my son on visitation and afford to feed him, that Colorado review the no fault divorce law when it involves the disabled and a judge seems to not care. That the food stamp law is reviewed, I am not the primary resident parent, therefore i cannot recieve more than $ 10.00 in food stamps, my son being here half the time doesn't matter.
I pray that i can fix my car, as it is too hard on my back to walk, i pray that gas prices will go down, way down, so i can afford to drive my car when its fixed, I pray that i can afford to eat more than one meal a day, as i have to budget to feed my son when he is here. I pray that chemical gold mining is stopped, so the cyanide in our water disapates. I pray for our country, as it looks to be on a spiral toward disaster, because we do not have a way to force our elected officials to take care of their citizens before they piss off the rest of the world, i pray that they let the UN do its job..
Well, it looks like i don't have time for more prayers, God is going to be overwhelmed someday, We are smart enough to fix all of our prayers and continue our belief's, but is anyone but God listening.? JWHsr Del Norte Co

I would like to run as a candidate for Senator, so tell me what we need and ask me what i would do.
Fight to reduce chemical mining, preserve our natural resourses, Arrest and deport illegal immigrants, create an agriculture job and transport program for US citizens, develop a state of the art school security program, school bus seatbelts, develop a wildlife fire prevention program, volunteer county commitee's to assess the performance of their Senators and Congressmen, automatic review of judgements for family courts, freeze forclosure law and research healthcare.
