I am Currently in China Blogging about my Adoption:

As we were driving to our hotel in Guangzhou I had to check my airline ticket stub to make sure there wasn't a mistake and we were actually dropped off on the set of Blade runner.

This place is straight up sci-fi. To help their traffic situation in this city they built a series of elevated highways right through the heart of the city - 4 stories up. So as you are driving you have banner advertisements in Mandarin flashing in your face. I'm not much of a video game player, but I know I have seen this system of elevated downtown highways in some sort of game along the way.
It is weird.
Cool weird.

Our view out the window of the hotel is on a huge river confluence lined with neon covered hotels. One of the hotels, about an 18-story monstrosity, has somehow made itself into a huge television. the river is filled with neon-trimmed barges blasting chinese classic rock... I'm a little overwhelmed here.

Our poor daughter has no idea what to do with herself.

We went to a cantonese place for dinner tonight where they had your entree swimming, hoppingand crawling in the foyer. Turtles, eels, waterbugs, snakes... you name it, it was live and ready to be consumed. I tried ordering "yellow fish" or dinner, but our waiter insisted I come back to the lobby to pick which yellow fish I wanted. Even if I could have said anything int Cantonese, this is NOT the place you tell a waiter to "surprise me." You will be surprised in very unpleasant ways.

On another note: I f you were asking yourself if it were possible to buy a chinese pirated copy of the new Batman movie on the street for $3 yet, the answer is yes.
And Wall-e and Iron Man and on and on.....
Impressive in their blatant disregard for copyright law.

I have one of those pirated DVD's of the Return of the King- I like to see how it translates- really badly!

Sounds other-worldy- Blade Runner- wow. I'll bet you are all so tired. When do you come home? Let me know, and we'll have a nice BBQ dinner sent over- no toads!

---sounds like a wild ride to lunch, wish you cud find a McDonalds, huh?

as for your legal concerns with copyrighting I believe other countries don't go to the limits with legalities that bind the U.S. of A. citizens cause they are brought up with that kind of mind-set {i.e. =education}
Enjoy the rest of your travels and hope you find what you're lookin for with out a good ole' case of dysentery....yikes on that one...

Yeah, even with all the warnings we got before we left not to drink the water (which we haven't) we all have come down with something along the way.

That just comes with travelling. Small price to pay for what we have seen and experienced!

Unfortunately finding a McDonalds in these citiesis as easy as finding one back home. They are everywhere!
Starbucks too. My favorite are the chinese knock off Starbucks, They are pretty funny. I'll post picts of them when i get back.

raysmom: yeah we're exhausted. We head home this week.
BBQ sounds pretty good right now.
Actually any meal where I can identify the animal's body part being served to me would be welcome.

Last night our restaurant had swan on the menu served 5 different ways.
It had never occurred to me to eat a swan.
Sure, why not. You can eat anything as long as you have enough sauce, right?

the view of the overhead expressways remind me of austin texas but i hope that is as far as austin goes when compared to 'blade runner'

im curious - what did the yellow fish meal cost and was it good?

what exciting adventure for you and your adoring readers here at home...smile! i chose to not say jealous readers.
