The Obama campaign is trying to say the reason Obama did not visit wounded troops in Germany was because he felt it was "inappropriate" to do so on a campaign-funded trip.

What??  Why??  Wounded vets vote.  Wounded vets donate to campaigns.  Does Obama think the only "appropriate" time to visit wounded soldiers is when the taxpayer is paying for his trip?

This guy does NOT care about our military, this guy is as anti-American as are his pastor and friends (Ayers, the guy who wanted to overthrow our gorvernment.  Farrakhan, the leader of the Nation of Islam who wants to overthrow America)

This guy is the most far-left, radical liberal in the Senate.  If he gets elected and if he gets a super majority in Congress he and they will abolish many of the rights we hold dear and they WILL turn us into a socialist state.

Since when would he stop campaigning to go and listen to some one who might ask or say something he wont like? He isn't over there to actually learn but to campaign. And by the way we are paying for alot of that trip. So another snub by Obama.

Let's not blow this up. Military rules say that a senator may visit with senate staff only. Obama is not traveling with senate staff only campaign staff. So they made the decision not to make it look like a campaign stop.

Now personally from a political standpoint they made a mistake...he should have gone to the hosptial ALONE and visited the troop and let the word of mouth news rule no need for pictures and media. Instead he has just given McCain a gaffe and a some ammo to run with and thus re-enforce some people's opinions that Obama doesnt give a Shiznit about the military folk.

I think we are starting to see some cracks in the Messiah's halo here. :)

The Pentagon requested that he not make the visit because it was during a leg of the trip that was paid for by his campaign. This violates military policy.

The Pentagon has confirmed that it made the request.

The taxpayers paid for the Afganistan & Iraq trip the same as they pay for McCain to visit those areas. The rest was paid for by the campaign to keep people from complaining about tax dollars being wasted on a campaign.

I wonder if taxpayers spent money on John McCains trips to Canada (for campaign speech), England (for campaign fundraiser), or Latin America?

One also has to wonder about why McCain made three trips abroad and it wasn't until the night before Obama left, that the State Department requested that embassies offer nothing but advice to campaign staff. (IE: If they need a van, don't provide one but tell them where to go to get one.)

One has to wonder why the State Dept. in Germany forbid all State employees to attend Obama's speech. (State Dept policy forbids active campaigning while overseas but attending an event on private time has always been allowed.)

Now that he's way in the lead he can't do anything right.

He's to blame for gas prices.

When the pentagon says no, he get blamed for that.

Wow... another ignorant American who only believes the typical political Rhetoric that is put out by the Republican Party and it's Candidates.

Obama did make a mistake here... but his Campaign's reasoning is sound. I agree with rockslide on this...

Obama could have made the visit by himself.

But to say he's snubbing his nose at our VETS... I don't think so.

This just in:

While in IRAQ, Sen. Obama did visit military hospitals to speak with wounded troops. There was no press, media or aides present. This was confirmed by the Pentagon, while the Obama campaign refused comment.

Ms Nancy & gimini210:

I realize you both hate Sen. Obama passionately and you have your reasons I am sure, but don't you think you should reconsider your statements above since they are completely unfair to the Senator. (AS WELL AS COMPLETELY UNFACTUAL)

This is one of my biggest pet peeves - when people assume things about someone without taking the time to learn the real reasons why someone did or did not do something. I am amazed - no, aghast - that anyone would even THINK of making snap judgments about people without ever getting to know that person and why he or she does what they do.

My point here is: Do some research before you run your mouth about someone and don't say things about them unless you have facts to back up your statements.

Its called "Think before you speak", but obviously MissNancy and Gemini never bother to think of anyone but themselves, so if they're not going to use their brains, why do they need them?

Before we speak so ill of our next president, let us not lose sight of the fact that the republicans have plunged us into the toilet several times now. The same republicans that McCain's campaign promises are duplicating. Obama visited the vets, without asking for the glory from the press or brownie points from the voters. Obama is not to blame for the gas prices or the global warming or the disastrous reputation of the U.S. in foreign affairs. We have the Bush's to thank for all of that.

Even though Obama is Black, he's so transparent I can't believe that the American people can't see him for what he is. He won't take questions from the crowd and everything he does is on his terms. If we have to wait for him to get elected President to find out what his views really are, then I'm afraid it will be too late. Especially if a Democratic congress is re-elected then we are in big trouble and I can't see why anyone with any common sense can't see that. Do we want to go back to the welfare system and high taxes? Then all you blind followers of the Pied Piper should vote for the "Messiah". Myself I will not vote for someone who doesn't do anything unless it gives a good "soundbite". I don't know if any of you remember the Carter years with high interest rates and the situation our country got into. The government can't bail out all the dumb people who make mistakes on their own and want someone else to be responsible for it.

I hate the thought of Obama in the White House and I hate the thought of a continued Democratic Congress-but I hate the thought of McCain in office and a Republican controlled Congress. This is the year I wish there were another option.

I always like to let the liberals run their mouths and then, when they have stopped to take a breath, I like to come back with some FACTS.

Here you go, mnaines and NEMO:

Pentagon spokesman Bryan Whitman told FOX News the Pentagon did not tell Obama he couldn’t visit, but explained that he would be under specific restrictions.

John McCain spokesman Brian Rogers said, “Barack Obama is wrong. It is never inappropriate to visit our men and women in the military.”

McCain’s Senate colleague Jon Kyl, R-Ariz., also took a shot at Obama.

“I noticed that Obama had plenty of time to shoot hoops … but he didn’t have the time to stop by (the Ramstein base),” he told FOX News.

My question, perhaps the Obama supporters on here can answer---Why didn't he visit them as a sitting senator? He could have done that with one of his staffers and security. Why didn't he?

I continue to find it laughable that the only quotes MissNancy has are from Fox News, such a Credible Unbiased News source.

That alone tells me exactly who her sources are, and the fact that she apparently won't take the time to get ALL the facts, instead of just quoting GOP Reps and Candidates.

Mr. Obama has allowed media questions, he has allowed people to ask questions... he just does a better job of controlling his image than others do, and under the circumstances... I think he has a right to do that.

Miss Nancy:

Here is the timeline as agreed upon by several news sources (AP & Reuters) (Note: Most people consider Fox to be as biased against Obama as MSNBC is biased for Obama, so let's take what they say with a grain of salt. And since it came out yesterday that the White House routinely gives Fox News talking points I really have trouble with them as an unbiased source.)

Two weeks before the visit, the campaign sought permission to visit & listed the aide to Obama as retired Major General Jonathan S. Gration. The visit was approved by the Pentagon.

After the Senator left Iraq (a Senate sponsored trip) his Senate aides flew back to Washington because the rest of the trip was sponsored by the campaign. (Apparently, unlike some candidates, Sen. Obama takes the rules regarding use of Senate aides for campaign purposes seriously.) On the night before the scheduled visit (and after the Senate aides were gone) the Pentagon delivered the news that it was innappropriate for a retired Major General to visit the troops with him because he was "campaign" staff. Only Senate staff would be allowed...and there were none with him. Why? It was a campaign trip!

During this entire trip, anything that Obama has done has been criticized by Sen. McCain. (If he hadn't spent time shooting hoops with troops he would have been called an elitist who doesn't care about troops.) If he meets with foreign leaders (which McCain was urging him to do 3 months ago) he presumptuous.

In a campaign you expect this type of behavior (although maybe not from a maverick like McCain
