Deep Within the AutumnForest

Here's a bit of this article:

"There is water ice on Mars within reach of the Mars Phoenix Lander, NASA scientists announced Thursday.

Photographic evidence settles the debate over the nature of the white material seen in photographs sent back by the craft. As seen in lower left of this image, chunks of the ice sublimed (changed directly from solid to gas) over the course of four days, after the lander's digging exposed them.

"It must be ice," said the Phoenix Lander's lead investigator, Peter Smith. "These little clumps completely disappearing over the course of a few days, that is perfect evidence that it's ice.""

I'm glad they found ice! Now we can all have a nice cocktail once we land! They have always know there is ice there. The have seen it at the polls for a hundred years! If they want to get to it, they better hurry because the Mars ice caps are melting like our own! It must be all the SUVs the Martians are driving! That or Al Gore has been giving speeches there too!*LMAO*

Shorty...buy an island. It will be cheaper!
By the way, they have found other earth-like planets. They are just the size of Jupiter.

How exciting is this???? :-)

In a way I hope man never develops the means to actually go there himself for exploration purposes or more.

Man is entirely too disrespectful.

We already have a means. We just lack an excuse. I think curiosity will do for now.

mmustangg, your comment was too funny, and when the ice melts I wonder if Al Gore will be the first to own ocean front property. I agree, this is exciting. And I am afraid to think once it's known how to make it inhabitable, it wouldn't take us long to take it over. Wonder if the Martians have to pay tax as well...LOL. On the serious side though, it was a really cool picture.

And MoonOwl, I am not sure what happened to the topic I posted on this site, but as soon as Orlando picked it up for their community page it was lost with all of your comments as well. I apologize that this happened. Fox is checking into it.

A technical glitch! They do happen... No biggie.

Hopefully you stick around. Daytona Frank doesn't like you, so you'll do well over here ;) hehehehehehe..... come to the light! Who needs the WhineFest.

Then we'll all go to Mars. What's cool is if there is water there, terra forming wont take nearly as long. Back in the 90's I had a copy of "Life" (i think) that had a huge story about terra forming Mars. Just getting it to produce water was the biggest step, so I'm sure those who are planning it are pleased. Where is the money coming for that I wonder? Perhaps China?

Good question on the money part. I wonder what percentage comes from "which" governments, and what percentage comes from "which" private investors? And thank you for making me feel welcome. Come to the light...LOL.

Is this "water ice" H2O or CO2 (carbondioxide)? Without the thechnology on board to analyze the chemical composition of the martian "ice," it seems premature to assume the "water" is suitable for irrigating plant life.

We know N.A.S.A. is prone to release impressive statements of "break throughs" that would encourage greater Federal funding for their projects. You may recall one such statement that proclaimed evidence of microbial life (bacteria?) on Mars. If I am not mistaken, this was later retacted and determined to be a geological anomoly.

I wouldn't be in a hurry to pack our bags just yet.
