http://thinkprogress.org/2008/10/     Pfotenhauer Claims McCain Has Made The Economy The ‘Fulcrum Of His Whole Campaign’»

With close friends like Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-CT) acknowledging that a focus on the economy has been bad for Sen. John McCain’s (R-AZ) presidential campaign, his adviser have announced a strategy for “turning a page on this financial crisis” in order to stop “talking” about the economy. But on the defensive about trying to avoid the most important issue of the day, senior McCain adviser Nancy Pfotenhauer argued on Fox News today that McCain “has made the economy, and his economic policies, just really, the fulcrum of his whole campaign”

In reality, McCain has made every effort he can to talk about anything but the economy. In June, Fortune magazine asked McCain what he saw as “the gravest long-term threat to the U.S. economy.” Instead of mentioning an actual economic issue, McCain paused for 11 seconds before saying “radical Islamic extremism“:

He’s looking not at us but into the void. His eyes are narrowed. Nine seconds of silence, ten seconds, 11. Finally he says, “Well, I would think that the absolute gravest threat is the struggle that we’re in against radical Islamic extremism, which can affect, if they prevail, our very existence. Another successful attack on the United States of America could have devastating consequences.”

McCain’s pivot in his interview with Fortune is similar to the pivot he made during a primary debate earlier this year. Asked about why he was “qualified” to “manage our economy,” McCain said that his military background gave him “the vision and the knowledge and the background to take on the transcendent issue of the 21st century, which is radical Islamic extremism.”

Considering that McCain has previously admitted that he knows “a lot less about economics than I do about military and foreign policy issues,” it’s not surprising that he would often choose to talk about “radical Islamic extremism” instead of the economy. What is surprising is that McCain’s advisers believe they can credibly claim McCain has made the economy “the fulcrum” of his campaign.

There is no economy, if 911 will be an every day experience. You wont be looking on t.v, as an elitist ,going wow how do those people make it. Electing obama will become an Anerican Lebanon!

Don't think so? Obama is weak on the borders . He's weak on war. He's weak on Terror! You folks act if 911 never happened. You fail to forget 911 was just a costly as this bail out.

If we accept obama far left liberal views about terrorism, an American economy will
become obsolete and irrelevant!!!! Come November ,it will be very telling. If you want obama than be prepare America!

Walk with me.911 was plotted before Bush. It was actually plotted when Clinton did everything he could to show America ,as Bin Laden pointed out,as a paper tiger! So what did Clinton do to make the terrorist angry enough to plot 911?

Was it the daddy Bush administration ? I mean, all he did was gave KUWAIT back its country ,right? What was wrong with that? Did that made the terrorist angry?

Was it maybe Reagan? I mean, the only thing he did was defeated Russia and ended the Cold war and also got Iran to release our American hostages! Are they mad at that?

Or MAYBE they got angry when Carter supported a man who stole nearly all of Iran's money and took American hostages because of it!

It is plum stupid to believe the terrorist or the world dislike us due to Bush. President Bush could have annihilated Syria , Iran , Iraq and all of Afghanistan and he would have been just in doing so!!!! And he didn't .

If Bush was so evil, as many far left liberals have said ,that was th

Obama thinks that taxing the actual earners in America will HELP things. (snicker)

At least McCain admits he has things to learn about economics...even economics professors admit they have much to learn about economics. Obama is completely clueless on the subject.

R8,

after 911, planes were grounded for a week! The stock market was closed for a weak! Everything stopped!!! We were lucky we did not crumbled then!! That's why Bush wanted to encourage the flow of money to continue ( Consumer spending) because like it our not, a capitalist system cannot survive if its interrupted .

The terrorist got it my friend . They have determined our weakness. They are more knowledgeable than you on this serious issue R8. That's sad to me.

Bin Laden understands that constant interruption to the American capitalist system(meaning, stopping the flow of money) is devastating to the live of capitalist free market. 911 proved that on a small scale! But the terrorist now know ,for sure, it does work.

Fly planes into a building -capitalism freezes. Bomb oil fields -capitalism freezes. Threaten the Israel with nuclear bomb- capitalism freezes.

It's a shame that the terrorist has become more intellectual motivated about its destruction of American and how it can happen than you ,an american citizen, do.

It is my opinion that that will be the next front for Bin laden as we move to the next battle against the terrorism . "Constantly disrupt their system ,while keeping them addicted to oil". Bin laden said that!!

A stable economy is not possible ,if a 911 becomes the norm in america.....

Uh-Huh. You're cute when you're sarcastic, y'know that boogeyman? Palin/RodeHog 2016.

When Obama taxes the heck out of oil, gas, and all manner of business, who do you think will end up paying those additional taxes? Santa Claus? It boggles the mind that there are those who actually believe that those taxes won't find their way to the consumer. DUH.

Allow me to illustrate: Goodyear makes tires. Obama's plan would include raising their taxes...the taxes on their revenue, the taxes on their white collar workers, and the taxes on their CEO.

Now, do you think that:

A.) The CEO is going to go home and tell trophy wife #3 that her bichon-friese can't have its own BMW because his taxes went up, or

B.) The price of Goodyear tires are going to go up?

If you chose A, you are a moron, probably a liberal to boot.

McCain knows a lot about economics, he's just man enough to admit that there are things that he doesn't know. He was the CHAIR of the Senate Finance Committee for seven years, after all. I'd say he knows more about the big picture of economics than any given liberal.

(also-Barry Hussein admitted he's a Muslim...now which is worse?)
