So. Millions of people are either dead, missing or displaced with absolutely no place to go. No food, medical supplies or clean water. Yet the US military have ships, planes and helicopters loaded with all kinds of relief including food, medical supplies and water purification tablets(enough for 200,000 people for a week.) Yet Myanmars' paranoid military junta is unwilling to accept any of it, even as people lay dying of stavation in the streets. Now the junta are saying that they want only cash. Humm....  We have now promised a wopping $3,000,000.00 in CASH to them. Even France has said they do not trust how that money would be used. I'm sorry, let them handle this disaster on their own then! We have issues in our own country that need to be addressed. People in our own country that would graciously accept aid. We should not have to BEG some other country to accept our help. They hate us anyway. I'm completely against just handing over Three Million dollers in cold hard cash. This country is in trillions of dollers of debt anyway. Mother nature can be cruel at times but we have absolutely no business over there. Especialy begging!!!!!!!! Obviously we need to mind our own business.

Raina, agreed, but if President Bush and America as a whole is going to be declaring we're the beacon of freedom, why do they choose not to get rid of this awful government?

I agree with Marx's assesment that countries go to war over economics... not freedom. We don't care about a country's freedom unless it benefits us in some way. Sad that I'm not in charge.

I think people in general are 'aweful'.. and only in that way do I agree that our government can be 'aweful'. Practically speaking, I think we have the best government in the world... even with all its faults.

Burma and such countries' governments don't care about their people.. so why would they aid them. They want money to line their pockets, not feed anyone. A U.N. food drop sits on a tarmac as we speak in that country.

This would be a very just war... to rid the country of a sh--head government. Problem is noone will do that because there's nothing in it for them.

Our government is far from Burm and Myanmar or pretty much any Asian, Middle Eastern, South American government. In large percentage, we take care of our own, and we are very much FREE.

Funny, this is exactly the sort of behavior that the Bush administration was accused of during Katrina.

THIS is what "depraved indifference" actually looks like, racists (and liberals).

I guess Brownie WAS doing a heck of a job, eh?
