Give me a break. Dude gets stopped with TWICE the legal limit of booze in him, THEN gets a ride to the hotel where his wife(?) is at, and now the justice system spits in our collective faces, gives him PROBATION, COMMUNITY SERVICE AND A $1000 FINE?!? ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME!!! Then the judge says there was NO special treatment?!? Of course not, yer honor, you'd do that for ANYONE, wouldn't you? No ride downtown in cuffs and booking, that ever important mug shot to be SPLASHED in the media. No. How exactly does the police department explain that? No impoundment of his vehicle? Then this wackjob of a judge lets him walk. I'm sorry, is it only me? Am I the only one that sees a problem here? Guess what, if it were YOU that got stopped by the cops for DUI, never mind with TWICE THE LEGAL LIMIT, your ass would be IN the back of the patrol car, and IN jail where it belongs. THEN you would LOSE YOUR LICENSE (as you should) and GET A BIG ASS FINE. Your life would basically suck for quite a while. But NOT for an NBA player. Lesson learned here; if you are an athlete you can do ANYTHING YOU WANT TO. That is exactly what the Denver Police Department and the judicial system has shown. Go ahead boys, have fun, the RULES don't apply to YOU, just OTHER people. And we wonder why so many a-holes run red llights around here. WWMD, What Would Mello DO.

No, I don't think it only you. It is "special treatment" regardless of what that judge thinks. It's obvious to me that when my friend got his first DUI, he was arrested, booked, car was towed, went to court, had to take alcohol classes for 6 months and got community service and probation for 1.5 yrs. Funny how you can be in the public eye and just walk pretty much with a slap on your hand. I'm sick of this kind of crap too.

My 1s DUI cost me 10k and I lost my license for a year and had to do 40 hour C/S had to get an sr22 that has followed me since 81 when I got my DUI...Mello is a punkass arrogant thug that wouldn't be worth 2 shts in a doggy bag if he didn't know how to throw a ball through a hoop....But who is really to blame is this liberal joke of a judge who is star struck.

Sorry guys. That's how justice works, as long as your are a responsible public figure, your get different justice. You mean you have to actually work for a poverty living, oh, then you must pay a full years salary and be christened with the scarlet "A" for the rest of your life. You can carry a ball, (or practice law), oh you must be important, we're sorry to waste your time, please accept our apology.

Lets see, our kids get their role models from where? The guys that put people in space, the people that cure illnesses, or the ones that carry a ball, or can lie out of both sides of their mouth?

Just goes to show you what true crooks some of these judges are. My brother got a DUI 3 years ago and it still isnt done. Many hours of community service and much bigger fines than this punk had to pay. $1,000 are you friggin kidding me. He probably laughed at that. We all know that he probably has that for pocket change. Why dont we make him give up a 1/4 of his yearly salary cause that is what it generally costs the common man who screws up in this department. Make him spend the night in Denver City Jail for a few nights with the BAD BOYS and do that dirty community service like wash ambulances and fire trucks for NOTHING. God forbid we have a SUPER STAR look like an IDIOT. Why doesnt the professional sports have a 3 strikes your out rule?? These guys are habitual offenders and what do they get for it? Publicity and millions of dollars!! If this judge didnt get paid off he should have, cause he sure make a fool out of himself in this case.

Straight UP.

That's BS, man. When I got busted my ass got fragged.

They should make you pay a percentage of your pay. They took a quarter of my money for three years, so that's what they should do to Melo.

I was a passenger of a friend that got a DUI. They impounded the vehicle, handcuffed the driver and then made me get out of the vehicle, handcuffed me and both my friend and I spent the night in detox. The driver was just barely over and I was not even hitting the DWAI mark, but since I was with a pesrson that was legally drunk I was handcuffed and even though we went within blocks of our house was not allowed to get out and walk home. My friend had to pay $1000 fine, do 40 hrs. C/S, attend 2 series of classes. The officer was trying to get my friend wound up so he could get him for assult on a officer. I still have scars from the handcuffs. And this guy that can play a kids game for millions gets a slap on the wrist and if there were passengers they got to go home and he was taken to a hotel, not the drunk tank.

Following my friend's case and what he heard in classes there is no uniform justice. If a person is found guilty, no matter what their star status, wealth factor or any thing else there should be laws that don't vary. This is all about money, if you have it you get off with a slap on the wrist, if not you are going to pay.

There's the law for the rich and famous and there's the one for the rest of us. Nothing new there. Any questions?

All that money to make a better life for himself and to help his community and he'd rather act like a thug than be a responsible black man.

It's not "cool" to be an upstanding citizen.

Great role model for children. I hope he gets traded soon!
