I thought i was being underpaid here in this right to work state, so i went to look it up..before throwing a tissy fit. and check this out.....................http://www.dol.gov/esa/minwage/
america.htm#Florida

Many other states have a higher min wage rate than Florida, i thought this was a federal mandate that applied across the board, how wrong i was.

And yet the map says florida is above the federal rate....... $6.79 an hour!  in Ga. $5.15 an hour! Kansas  $2.65 an hour w/ a 46 hour work week!!!!

No wonder people are turning to crime....one cant live on min wage!!!! With high costs of everything, this is absolutely appalling!! Wasn't the min wage rate raised???? I think min wage should be double the price of a gallon of gasoline, after all isnt gas whats driving our economy today????

What do you think ?

Twizled...I believe in Jersey is up to either 6 dollars and change if not 7 dollars...it is sad that Florida is CHEAP....when it comes to hard working people but BIG on the shyster real estate markets.

Most minimum wages are based on the cost of living in the area. Ca. has a much higher wage than the south because it costs more to live there.

Well, with everything rising so fast...guess its time to look into that scale again.
But of course that wont happen...not until the majority of people are left starving, and unemployed, then we as a nation may WAKE UP and hold some people accountable!

I think that federal law dictates the true minumum wage though. $2.65 might be the wage for those that recieve tips as well as a wage.

The argument is that minimum wage is intended for young high school students not for adults. The error in that theory is that a large percentage of our population are forced to survive on minimum wage.

I think what needs to be done is that dual minimum wage needs to be set up, one for those under 17 years old and younger and one for adults. That would resolve the issue. Seems even logical but hey, we know how well logic goes over with the government.

Shame on you Sage ! “A large portion of our population “ where do get that idea ? That facts / statistics say that more than 80% of the lazy bums working for minimum wage are part time workers and full time students . Raising the minimum is stupid it hits all of us and is a “trap” because it panders to a socialist agenda that perpetuates the idea that you CAN'T better yourself and you MUST allow the government to control your income potential.

Fact is we are/where the greatest nation on earth because we did not hinder the ability of an individual to make more money...the minimum wage is far to high and is hindering and holding back people who could and would make more at the very same job because it is forcing the boss to give more to the nonproductive individuals leaving less for the true workers!

I'm just a United States citizen, wondering what the heck is going on these days, and looking to find some intelligent people, to possibly find a solution to this mess, so that everyone can really live the American Dream. I believe brainstorming can solve alot of problems, if we can keep our egos aside.
