A bi-partisan special committee has been convened by House leadership to examine an incident Monday in which state legislator Doug Bruce, R-Colorado Springs, allegedly kicked a Rocky Mountain News photographer.

The incident between Bruce, and photographer Javier Manzano, occurred Monday morning during a prayer on the House floor, just prior to Bruce's swearing in.

Bruce said he did not kick the photographer. He said he tapped him on the knee with the heel of his shoe. The photographer was in an area where the media are allowed to take photographs. Bruce said it was not necessary during the prayer.

What do you think about this controversy? Does anyone need to apologize? Should a House committee be spending time investigating the incident?

If he were named Joe Smith instead of Javier Manzano, we wouldn't be asked this stupid question!!!

Prove me wrong..

If it were a Democrat, his affiliation wouldn't be called out in the first paragraph. And the story would be on 37A. Not front page.

The photographer should apologize! Yes, he is doing his job up until prayer starts… THEN for goodness sake, show some respect!

Mr. Manzano, shame on you.

Just because you are a racist and partisan doesn’t mean everyone else is. ANYONE who disturbs persons in prayer should be reminded to show respect.

The photographer may have snapped a photo at the wrong time, but kicking someone for that is hardly justified...maybe they should both apologize so we can get back to business.

I say they are both behaving like children and should be treated accordingly. Sounds just like any squabble my two young sons have, and when they behave this way they both have to apologize and hug one another. I say these two do the same, apologize with a handshake and move on already.

I go to Metro State where we are in dire need of Financial Aid for students. I'm curious as to just how much money the state of Colorado is going to throw away on this SILLY investigation. Please stop wasting taxpayer time and money.

Both should apologize. The photographer should not interupt the prayer.
As for Doug Bruce what a shame to set the example that we kick people if we are pleased. He is in the public eye and this just showes what we put in to office. VIOLENT BONE HEADS!

I think both should apologize and move on. They are both adults and they should act like it.

OK Sandflea, we kick out the photographers..then who? Print media members, because they criticize Bruce for his voting record? Maybe we should kick Bruce out for being a boorish egotistical meathead.

If Bruce did not want all the media attention, I guess he should have shown up to the first day of work. The Govener stated in his address that all thoses people made a sacrafice to be there. It's time Bruce makes his sacrafice, apologize, and then get on with the State business at hand.

TWO WEEKS TO INVESTIGATE THIS?!? Are you frickin' KIDDING me?

Even the hopelessley obtuse have to realize that this is actually about attacking the guy who won't let the libs tax us into oblivion.

I know, let's spend those two weeks figuring out where all that Referendum C money went...

The simple truth is more and more people have a growing disrespect for religions and for people who hold prayer and something special. Media is a huge offender!

I agree that the photographer was out of line, but the response wasn't appropriate either. They both need to learn some respect.

Well if he did kick him then that is not right, but the photographer shouldn't have been taking pictures at that time either, and you always have to wonder if the photographer was just trying to get attention.

Some religions would cut your head off for interfering with their religious practices. I think a bit more respect could have been shouwn by the photographer and a bit more finess by Mr Bruce.
Bit I don't think its worth wasting tax dollars to score political points!
