A church in Washington, D.C. is not allowed to have their annual Super Bowl party because the NFL pulled the plug.

The NFL says that airing games at churches on large screen TV's violates the NFL copyright on the game.

The same policy affects movie theaters, large halls and other venues with big screen TV's.

Bars that normally have big screens in place year-round are exempt from the rule.

What do you think? Should the NFL make an exception to the rule so that organizations such as churches can have Super Bowl gatherings?

Sounds fair! A church isn't a place to get trashed and party; it's used to worship!

Why not? who said you have to drink and carry on as you would at a bar. Church people like football too. They can cheer on their favorite teams.

Maybe the NFL should distribute it through i-tunes, then they could specify what device we watch TV on.

I agree it does sound silly, however the bars are paying for commercial access based on building occupancy. If the churches pay access for each viewer in their audience, there's no reason they can't broadcast it either.

I don't get it. Why not let the church's have Superbowl parties too. It's not like they are pulling out the pews and gettin' crazy. (They have community halls for these activities)The bars can do it with their Big Screens. I've been to some church Superbowl Parties with chips and sodas and assorted snacks with everyone sitting around SEVERAL TV's just like a bar without the drunken idiots spilling drinks all over everyone, it's ALOT more fun. And I'm going to one this year too....

It is absolutly no different then a large group getting together at a bar to watch the Superbowl. Individual ratings? I'd like to know how the NFL gets "individual ratings" from individuals at a bar? 300 people in a bar is the same as 300 people in a church hall.

who would have guessed that the NFL cares more about money than the fans. they should be happy that people are watching at all.I think that watching football is a waist of time unless you are going to get drunk or your a dork.

by the way look out for drink drivers sunday knight the will be out and waisted.

you can thank the NFL for that

I think that church goers are the least of our problems. when it comes to sports people get stoopid.

Think I'll get a Big Screen for the Garage and have a party! Someone tell me I can't.

BTW pawnone, how is the NFL responsible for "drink drivers"?

Creeping gov. regulations are really sneaking in on us! -what with the cyberspace reg.s, thinkin people can read your e-mail accounts, making the upgrade to t.v. viewing that will cost the poor to quit t.v. and go back to the radio...
Perhaps if the church hadn't 'advertised, so well, it woulda go unnoticed for the media...

just like the media makin all these assumptions and invasions of privacy with poor Brittney....thats the latest news. Time to Vam 'os. Make a yard party in Oldtown and bring the bands.

I don't believe in religion I was just saying that a church is a place to worship not to throw parties and watch television.

insomnia: You don't believe in religion, yet you feel obliged to tell religious people what they can (or can't) do in their church?

You're not being serious, are you?

Listen, ignorami- A church is not just a place to worship. It is a place for spritual people to congregate, meditate, and enjoy the fellowship of like-minded people. Perhaps the parishoners wanted to enjoy each others company without suffering fools, drunkards, atheists, and other societal outcasts.

If I were a member of this church I would throw my party anyway, and let the NFL bring it on. I doubt the NFL is going to go through the negative publicity of litigating a church.

The NFL stand for NO EDIT LOGIC, I guess.
