Wednesday is showdown day on Capitol Hill as Congress turns its attention to steroids in baseball. Roger Clemens is due to square off against his former personal trainer, Brian McNamee, who has told federal prosecutors that he injected Clemens with steroids and human growth hormone.

Just ahead of today's congressional showdown, it leaked out that former New York Yankee teammate Andy Pettitte has told Congress in a sworn affidavit that Roger Clemens talked in

1999 or 2000 about using human growth hormone. In Clemens' defense, former major leaguer Jose Canseco told Congress in a sworn affidavit that he has never seen Clemens "use, possess or ask for steroids or human growth hormone."

What do you think about this? Should Congress be involved? What will the results of these baseball steroids hearings be in your opinion?

Congress should absolutely be involved. Clearly, you cannot rely on MLB to do it. MLBs goal is to have supernatural athletes, since popularity of the sport, and big money rides on this. It is an equivalent of asking a car maker to build a vehicle requiring no maintenance... Do you think a car make is going to want to loose all the profits. Government has to oversee steroid use in all sports, period!

PLEASE!!!!!! Isn't 'Big Brother' in our lives enough already? Baseball is NOT a public matter. If the MLB can't police their own players against steroid use then it's their bad. Who cares if someone uses steroids anyway, it's just baseball for crying out loud, not our President or other politician using drugs to enhance their career..GIVE ME A BREAK!!!!! Enoughs enough...

I care when my child who is going to be playing pro football is asking me: Dad, everyone else does steroids, why can't I? I have to keep up with the other guys, you know! What I am supposed to tell my son? And no matter what I say, do you think he will listen? If you all have kids, you will think twice about this clearly, you have other matters in you mind!

It's the economy stupid. Perhaps Congress should be more focused on the things that matter to the majority of their constituency instead of a few overpaid individuals intent on ruining their profession.

There needs to be a governing body without ulterior motives. Simple as that. Congress makes sense, since it is their responsibility to serve the greater good. Yes, there are few overpaid athletes that destroy their careers, but what about the millions of kids in schools today striving to be the next Berry Bonds, or Sammy Sosa? That's who the Congress would ultimately protect, not those athletes and not MLB.

Yes congress please get involved because I know as an American citizen there is nothing better for my tax dollars to work on but the MLB. Here's a clue let them deal with there problems they don't want to fix it who cares. Put our tax dollars toward something useful like maybe the house epidemic.

Real tax dollars are going elsewhere anyways. This is a relative small fish, but the impact on the culture is significant.

I think congress can spend our tax dollars on better things than baseball, like the economy, or proceting our borders.

Hey Congress, when you're done with that load of crap (obviously you don't remember why we hired you), could you please check the COT cars in NASCAR! I think toyota is on steriods. Somehow, Mikey Waltrip qualified 2nd in his toyota for the 50th Daytona 500 this weekend. Last year the big dummy could barely qualify...Please make this your next priority!

I am so tired of the bs that our elected officials think they can get away with. How about we hire a new congress to investigate congress? There should be a separation of church and state and professional sports. And to the guy who thinks the government should be involved because "what does he say to his kid when the kid says everyone else is doing it" BE A PARENT! By God - DO YOUR JOB and be a parent! Stop thinking that the government is here to do what you obviously do not feel competent enough to do. I wrote my congress man just yesterday. If these guys have nothing better to do, maybe they should all get real jobs. We have men and women who are dying on foreign soil, our economy is in the toilet, and the biggest thing on their plate is who shot who with poison and B12. If these guys lied - and I dont know if they did or didnt - but isnt there a justice dept to solve that? Here is the kicker, we will keep electing fools and we will keep paying their salary increases and we will continue to have them wasting their time and our money. If you dont like it - write your Senator or your Congress Man or Woman. Expect them to do the job you hired them to do and hold them accountable.
