There is talk of a nationwide truckers' strike on Tuesday, April 1, 2008.

Truckers who are trying to organize the strike are doing it mainly to protest the rising cost of fuel. Their hope is that a work stoppage would disrupt the transportation of goods enough to force change in the cost of fuel.

What do you think about this action? Do you support it? Is it likely to have an impact?

I’m sick of paying for cable TV so let’s all stop paying for cable so they give it to us for less!

Instead of being babies, how about being business men and increase the price of their service, according to gas prices? What is a strike going to do? I whole lot of nothing! Way to think it through!

I don't support their strike. They are operate as independent business. Truckers can write ALL of their transportation expenses on their tax filings as a business. Joe Public commuter who drives everyday to work cannot.

They say it is to protest high gas prices? What good will this do? Do you think the oil companies will change their minds and reduce the price of gasoline? NO. We are all stuck with the consequences.

I support the truckers.

Yes we all pay high gas prices but a huge portion of those gas prices is taxes we pay on it. So if our goods aren't able to get around maybe our lawmakers will pay attention and cut those taxes.

It's about time people started taking action about the ridiculous conditions of our economy, besides we've been three days without the services of truckers, anyone remember the blizzards last year? It won't kill us and maybe it'll get a point across to the people that make the policies. It's the people that sit back and say "what can you do about it?" that make the powers that be think they can get away with murder.

I was wondering when this was going to happen. I support it 100%. The cost of fuel is sickening it's not only killing the truckers it is also killing the American Public. Stores will be empty, business will not operate smoothly. I think it's great!! I don't know about you but I am tired of paying out the a$$ for fuel. It does not matter if they are independent truckers, if they raise there price they will not run and you people know that. SO WAKE UP!!!!!!

I hope the truckers do shut down. Independent truckers are unable to compete with large corporations by increasing prices, the large companies will undercut and take their loads. Driving truck is their livelihood. Without independent drivers large corporations will control not only pricing but also availability of products.

GO TRUCKERS!! Its about time someone strikes about these darn gas prices!!

If truckers have to pay higher gas prices, then they will charge more, which means higher cost on food and clothing, which means MORE POVERTY!!

The reality IS that costs go up and down… I am surprised at all the support for these guys who choose to cry over high prices. High prices happen people! There is nothing you can do about it but roll with the punches.

Yes high gas is making it difficult on Americans, but what happens is change. I will tell you now, the one who comes up with a cheap source of alternative fuel will be richer than Bill Gates.

People! Think about the late 1800s! All the poor horse ranchers and carriage manufactures were WIPED OUT because of the automobile! Did America survive? OMG yes it did! PEOPLE THINK!!!! It’s great to feel sorry for them but that doesn’t solve the problem!

I certainly understand the truckers frustration with the high cost of fuel. However, the only people who will feel the affects of the strike would be the American People and not the Gas and Oil companies who are setting the prices.

I support the truckers. Pres. Bush needs to step in. The cost of fuel is prohibitive. When the oil & gas companies can still make profits in the billions something need to be done to control the prices! We are all going to be ruined!

When the weight of high gas prices is felt by the majority of the population, most have the ability to cut back on consumption by driving less and employing the services of public transportation. Truckers don't have that luxury. Fuel is their lifeline. A strike is absolutely justified.

I totally support the truckers. Most people are ignorant of the cost of being a truck driver. Drivers have to pay for equipment, permits, licenses, fees, fuel, taxes, insurance, and there are permits/fees for each state they drive through to arrive at their delivery and/or pickup. Truckers pay out thousands of dollars each year to have a job! What do you pay to keep your job?

I saw this story last night. It shows a trucker fueling his rig and has a good view of his hand. If they are so “poor”, why was he wearing such an expensive watch (a Movado)?

I can support the fundamental reason for the strike, but with crude oil selling at nearly $110 per barrel, it seems the cause is already lost. The only short term relief would lie in a tax reduction on fuel. Colorado has among the highest fuel tax rates in the country, and that, combined with federal taxes makes it difficult for all of us. The evil in that idea is that with reduced taxes, we suffer reduced road maintenance, which is abysmal to begin with.
