The news for the airline industry isn't so good right now.

Consumer complaints rose 60 percent in the annual Airline Quality Rating.

The main reason include the facts that airfares are up, late flights are up and more passengers are being bumped from their flights at the boarding gate.

On top of all that, bankruptcy filings shut down three airlines last week. All airlines face the challenges of rising fuel prices and safety problems with aircraft.

What's your biggest complaint about air travel? What ideas do you think might work to improve performance of the airlines?

Where to begin? Aside from the obvious, one must ask how secure the seemingly endless security checks really are. Yes, they stop potential threats such as bomb materials, and Joe Citizen from bringing his toe nail clippers aboard, but is it all so necessary? I feel that it is a artificial sense of security. Maybe we need it, what with all of the hype about somebody bringing shampoo on a cross country flight and somehow fashioning it into a class four explosive(or so "they" say)but I think things would be fine should the two-hour long security lines be shortened. I end with this: we can all travel save knowing that a security officer took some average person's little swiss army knife(of course, in a sarcastic sort of way!)

Is this a question or a forum for complaints??

The airline industry is the biggest welfare industry we have, what do you idiots expect when all the government does is enable them?

I think people will complain no matter what, anyone on the left lives for complaining and whinning.

WebTeam is showing their weak colors again so here's a valid QOTD!!!!!!!!

What is your opinion of the Olympic torch being extinguished twice over the Tibet protests???

Flying use to be fun, not anymore. What food?
Chips are not food unless you have a hot dog or burger. What really gets me is Security checks are not the same from airport to airport. Some you have to take shoes off, some you don't. Doesn't TSA operate out of the same manual????

GREAT question, Specter!

I'm looking forward to this year's Olympics because it will shine the light of World opinion on one of the worst Governments in human history.

For the folks worried about Iraq, they will have the opportunity to learn about China, where hundreds of thousands of political disidents are executed annually. There's no "waterboarding" in China, they just kill you.

For the folks worried about "global warming", they will have the opportunity to learn about China, where the fumes that fuel economies are up about 5,600 percent. If you worship at the church of Gore, you're gonna LOVE China.

We don't need to protest at the Olympics, however. A boycott would be stupid, and terribly unfair to the athletes that have devoted most of their lives to this event.

We need to protest at the Wal-Mart by not buying the Chinese EDIT that fuels their communist machine.

Again, good question dude.

The airlines? they suck. A perfect example of government over-meddling in free market business.

If the enviro wackos have their way you would only take a air plane ride once in you life time. Of course they want to do away with cars and then we can all walk. Got to love-em?

Not being a "frequent flyer" I can only speak to my experiences the few times I have flown. I wasn't too happy about having to wait in the check-in line, but then I flew during the holidays - wait times are too be expected. On the other hand, while in the airport in Portland, OR, I was a tad bit surprised that they actually opened up all of my luggage to inspect it (prior to going through any type of x-ray machine). It was pretty embarrassing watching the guys go through my bag that had underclothing in it. I don't think my undies posed any security threat.

I was thinking the very same thing, Specter. giflash, my sentiments exactly. And where is the U.N. Human Rights council on the Tibet issue?

"Russia's U.N. Ambassador Vitaly Churkin, whose country holds the council's rotating presidency, said last week that Tibet was "clearly not a matter for the Security Council, or for the United Nations." China is a veto-wielding permanent member of the council. Uh-huh.

Almost half of the 47 members of the United Nations' Human Rights Council are not "free democracies" (according to Freedom House rankings), and several, such as China, Cuba, Russia and Saudi Arabia, have been widely criticized as human rights violators. Consequently, the council has failed to address any of the most prominent rights abuses around the world (including some that were called genocide) in Sudan, North Korea, Chad, Zimbabwe and Iran, among other places, but in January, the council voted its 12th "condemnation" of Israel (out of only 13 condemnations it has ever issued)."

So, as long as the foxes are in charge of the henhouse, it seems that protests like these, against the Olympics, are the only representation that the truly oppressed have.

Uh, Raysmom. I'm not sure what your posting (while interesting) has to do with the issue of "Air Travel Complaints."

Look above at the comments of Specter & giflash- we decided to go off topic- just a whim! We have a bit of criticism of the coice of QOTD's- LOL!

Thanks, Raysmom, I pretty much just skimmed over the postings and didn't read them closely. It was at bit off the topic. LOL On the other hand, perhaps it's a tad bit hard to come up with a good QOTD every day without repeating issues. Perhaps Fox would appreciate some constructive suggestions from us - and not the same old, same old political arguments between the liberals and conservatives, etc.

I couldn't agree more, msdeb! I was actually surprised that this topic didn't get more response- I don't fly unless it's an emergency, but it seems like there are many problems "flying the friendly skies" these days!

It is hard to come with non-partisan discussions, it's true. And the thing about it is, no one is changing anyone else's mind. Well, we'll keep our minds and eyes open for a good topic- nice talking with you!

I have not flown for about 15 years, but my husband is a road warrior. Overall the airline he uses and is close to being the highest level of frequent flyer he is really not upset with. It is TSA. They have stolen from his lugguage, destroyed lugggage, articles in the luggage, in Chicago they were harrassing anyone that was not their race by pulling them out of line and making theem do a near strip seach until the supervisor realized what they were doing. I don't think the people that fly a lot have issues with airlines but with TSA.

Keep an eye on the qotd, the experience will show a partisan method employed by the WebTeam IMPO.

Give it a month then evaluate for yourself as it's not my place to sway your opine. I'm simply exercising my own opine!!

Customer Service. Does anybody have that anymore.

msdebinco - they weren't checking out your undies for security reasons!

specter, gjflash, truth1 - right on target! Maybe we could find a way to use libs as jet fuel. Might not do much to lower polution but we ought to be able to get good mileage out of them...seems like they keep going and going..

tandm - you forgot a question mark. And yes, in my home remodelling and repair business, I have customer service. It's kinda funny how it surprises my customers.

As far as the airline dilema goes, and if I had the power to actually do something about it, I would start with the security stations at the airports:

NEW RULE: LEAVE GRANDMA, GRANDPA, THE INFANT IN THE CRIB, THE QUADREPLEGIC IN THE WHEELCHAIR, THE GUY THAT LOOKS LIKE MR. ROGERS, THE GIRL THAT LOOKS LIKE JESSICA SIMPSON, AND MSDEBINCO'S PANTIES ALONE.

NEW RULE: IF YOU ARE A MUSLIM, LOOK LIKE A MUSLIM, SOUND LIKE A MUSLIM, ACT LIKE A MUSLIM, DRESS LIKE A MUSLIM, HAVE ANY ITEMS WHICH IDENTIFY YOU AS A MUSLIM, AND ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE MALE, BE PREPARED TO BE THOROUGHLY SEARCHED. NO POLITICAL CORRECTNESS HERE. THAT'S LIFE, GET OVER IT!
