A new walk-in clinic located inside Alameda High School in Lakewood is giving the public access to primary health care.

The clinic is for teens and kids under age 18, and it will be open year round.

An external exit was built to keep students away from the general public.

Do you think it's a good idea to put a clinic that's open to the public inside a school?

I think the idea is exceptable. It would promote the students to get checked up. Is it a health hazard?

College Campuses have health clinics. Why not high schools? It's a great idea.

To me it seem's contridicting for the reason it is open to the general public rather only the students if that is the case what is the difference to a public location or in the school. I think it would cause several confidential issues among students privacy. I believe having access to a clinic can be a positive step for health and awareness but not limiting to a certain age.

inghrnfan, I dont see a problem with your comment having a clinic in a school as I recall All schools have a nurses station which provides first aid if needed. It sounds exceptable I agree as long as the clinic is not expecting to bill for visits as a regular hospital I see this becoming an issue as in being hit with a docotors bill i.e. clinic visits as long as this is posted and Students are aware of co-pays etc.

In my opinion, it makes perfect sense. Why waste money on a second location to serve the public? Wouldn't it be better to use that to provide better services to more people? As for confidentiality issues, there is no real privacy any more. Anyone can have their private issues aired at any time. Take a look at your doctor's office and see just how many people have access to your health file. Now multiply that by all of the different providers you have. And add in the insurance companies. Any person in any of those locations can take your information and release it to the public. As long as they provide safety for the students, then there really shouldn't be an issue with it.

This does not sound like a good idea at all. First, even though a "separate entrance" has been constructed, I'm assuming it is just a separate entrance to the same first-aid office that students use. That's like a bathroom with two entrances. If that's the case, this idea has the potential of putting certain undesireables within a really close proximity to high school students. Secondly, I'm against any free clinic at all. Places like that become gathering places for low-lifes, illegal aliens in particular, and do little more than breed a sense of entitlement. Can you just see it? Bewteen 50 and 100 "regulars" gathered at the door to the clinic, Monday through Friday. And what about security? Has anyone involved in this really bad idea addressed that? What's going to stop teenage illegal aliens and young non-students from blending into the crowd of students between classes or at lunch and plying their trade? I think all you're going to get out of this idea is a big increase in thefts of purses, computers...not to mention the sex assaults. If this idea becomes reality, we won't have to worry about keeping predatory illegal aliens away from our kids. We'll be bringing the predators right to them. Bad bad bad idea!!!

Isn't this the same school that has the dress code vs. cell phone idea because of gang problems? What a train wreck!

In response to QUILTEDPOPPY You are not seeing privacy an issue. Big time issue especially in H.S. that is why a law was created for bullies. Also your comment on Insurance privacy all Patients have the option to sign a form of releasing info. or Not, to other Insurance companies etc.

Just to give you a little perspective, about half of Alameda's student body is comprised of illegal aliens. This clinic is being created to provide more free health care for illegal aliens, at YOUR expense.

Too bad us Americans can't get free health care.

It should actually be a veternary office. These kids are nothing but animals. Superpredators.

Heavysurf - that was hilarious. Thanks for the laugh!

But seriously folks, it is really sad when I see whay has become of my beloved Country. I'm 48 years old and I remember high school at George Washington H.S. and how much fun I had. I drove by there the other day. The representation of the student body I saw looked more like a prison yard population of gang members.

Oh yes, they all have a convict mentality. At 49 I look back at school when the biggest problem was gum chewing in class

That was before the mexicans took over America.

I'm forced to agree with Heavysurf's label of predators, however.

Have your 14-year old daughter take an exchange student program with Lincoln High. Ask her how it went. After your fifth interview with the apathetic Denver PD see if you don't agree with us.
