QOTD: Pot Smoking Rally
Apr 21, 2008 | 4:59 AM PST
Category:
News
There was a nationwide annual
celebration of marijuana on Sunday… It’s called 4/20.
Hundreds of students got together on
the CU campus mostly to “light up”. At Denver's
Civic Center Park,
as many as a thousand showed up.
Voters in Denver approved a measure that makes possession
of a small amount of pot legal. But it’s not in Boulder.
There’s no word if there were any pot-related
arrests at CU... There was one arrest at the event in Denver.
What's your opinion... should there be arrests at events like this?

News
Parents of two students at Stein Elementary School in Jefferson County are fighting the suspensions of their students.
School administrators say a couple of other students brought vicodin to school and distributed it. Vicodin is a prescription pain killer.
Two students who received the pills say they immediately got rid of them. They say they did not take them, and that they did the right thing and got rid of them.
School administrators suspended those two for possession. Their parents say that's not right.
What do you think?

QOTD: Rough Flying for Airlines
Apr 11, 2008 | 5:04 AM PST
Category:
News
Denver -based Frontier Airlines filed for bankruptcy protection Friday. Frontier says it's largely because of a decision its main credit card processor made to withhold proceeds from the sale of Frontier Airlines tickets.
SEE THE STORYThings are rough in the airline industry right now. All of the following are issues the airlines are trying to tackle... at the same time.
- Financial/Credit crisis
- Fuel costs
- Canceled flights for safety inspections
- Demands for a passenger bill of rights
- Low quality ratings
What should the airlines do to make things better for their customers and themselves? What can they do to turn things around?
Public Clinic @ School

News
A new walk-in clinic located inside Alameda High School in Lakewood is giving the
public access to primary health care.
The clinic is for teens and kids under age 18, and it will be open year round.
An external exit was built to
keep students away from the general public.
Do you think it's a good
idea to put a clinic that's open to the public inside a school?
QOTD: Dress Code or Phones
Apr 8, 2008 | 4:52 AM PST
Category:
News
Alameda High School in Lakewood is giving students an option and a decision to make.
They can agree to following a strict,
uniform-like dress code in exchange for being able to use cell phones,
iPods, etc, at lunch, or they can keep the current dress code and lose use of the
gadgets at school.
School administrators want the dress code to help handle a gang problem. The dress code would be solid shirts and solid pants. Some students call the proposal "blackmail."
Administrators will make a decision based upon a survey that has gone out to students and parents.
What do you think about this idea?
QOTD: Air Travel Complaints
Apr 7, 2008 | 4:48 AM PST
Category:
News
The news for the airline industry isn't so good right now.
Consumer complaints rose 60 percent in the annual Airline Quality Rating.
The main reason include the facts that airfares are up, late flights are up and more passengers are being bumped from their flights at the boarding gate.
On top of all that, bankruptcy filings shut down three airlines last week. All airlines face the challenges of rising fuel prices and safety problems with aircraft.
What's your biggest complaint about air travel? What ideas do you think might work to improve performance of the airlines?

QOTD: Fighting Foreclosure
Apr 3, 2008 | 4:58 AM PST
Category:
News
This post has been edited by an administrator
The U.S. Senate is headed toward a vote on legislation designed to reduce home foreclosures.
It's a bipartisan plan that dropped some elements of a Democratic party plan that would've given judges power to reduce interest rates on some mortgages.
Here are some highlights of the new plan:
- $10 billion in tax-exempt bonds to refinance subprime loans
- $4 billion to states to buy up and refurbish foreclosed homes
- $15,000 in tax credits to people who buy and move into foreclosed homes
- FHA guarantee hundreds of billions in refinanced loans if lenders reduce loan amounts to reflect lower home values
Colorado is expected to have 50,000 home foreclosures in 2008 in the next couple of years.
What do you think about this plan? What should the government do if anything, to help ease this crisis?

QOTD: Truckers' Strike
Mar 31, 2008 | 4:49 AM PST
Category:
News
There is talk of a nationwide truckers' strike on Tuesday, April 1, 2008.
Truckers
who are trying to organize the strike are doing it mainly to protest
the rising cost of fuel. Their hope is that a work stoppage would
disrupt the transportation of goods enough to force change in the cost
of fuel.
What do you think about this action? Do you support it? Is it likely to have an impact?

bullet hole in the Airbus, Which was flying from Denver
to North Carolina.
The bullet went through the wall of
the cockpit.
The plane was descending to land at
the time. But air safety experts say if the gun was fired at a higher altitude,
the bullet hole could have caused the plane to rapidly depressurize.
Should the issue of pilots carrying weapons on board planes be revisited?

DENVER - An environmental group is suing the federal government
because it says releasing wolves wasn't seriously considered as a
solution to reducing the elk herd in Rocky Mountain National Park.

up to 200 elk annually over 20 years. The number killed each year will
depend on the herd's size, which fluctuates.
Should wolves have been considered?
