You have changed your graphics many times since 1998 but one thing you have not changed is your studio.  The other news stations in Birmingham have already changed the look of their studios, some even twice since 1998.  The studio you use now is starting to get old, I often watch webcasts of other news stations across the country and they often have better colors, updated tv's, better desks, etc.  I am not saying you are not good, the news you do is great, but is it time to update your look with an new studio, It would be better that having your anchors stand behind a green screen faking a studio during the news or having the entire sidline 2008 show shot behing a green screen, just my two cents.  Have a good day!

Gosh; I am getting sick and tired of what's going on in Washington and at Wall St.  Let's get down to the points of what caused this recession

1. Wall St. got very greedy and took advantage of many citizens with subprime loans

2.Washington decided it was a good idea to deregulate wall st.; well now we are seeing the problems because of that

3. People are using credit cards; loans like crazy because we all think credit is limitless; well it is not and now we are hitting the fan because of that

No wonder why most of the world hates us; it is because we pretty much do not care and we spend. spend, spend like crazy.  Now with Palin saying we might be heading toward a depression and mccain wanting to postpone friday's debate to most of congress not wanting support the bush's 700 billion bailout; things need to change very quickly or we are screwed. The average joe has no choice but to use credit to buy neccesary things because of your wages not going up and many people out of work and i am afraid it will get worse.  Now i have some suggestions to fix these problems.

1. REGULATE and change the rules of wall st. and quit all of this greed and corruption before it is too late.

2. If these compaines want a bailout their former CEO's and the tons of millions of dollars they took when they left must be returned and nobody can take lots of money in the company.

3.We need a new president that will create good paying us jobs and spend money to get jobs like improving roads, rail service, mass transit, schools, airports, and everything else infrastructure like we did after the great depression.

4. Impose a tariff on ALL goods coming in to the country.  We have a trade decifit in the 100's of billions of dollars every year becuase cheap goods from other countries come in and jobs go out.  Make companies to create jobs here because it would be cheaper.

5.Congress and the president need to quit sitting on their butts and come together and pass good legistation.

6.Help people get out of their subprime loan mess and require certain things to get a loan like money down and good credit.

7.Make people quit using credit cards like it is their ATM and require people to save and give tax breaks for people who save.

8. Encourage people to shop at local non-chain businesses since most of their stuff is made here at home and big chains stores everything is from china.

9.stop spending so much on war related and government related stuff; Most of the world hates us and wants to give us the middle finger because of what we are doing in iraq.

10.Reform all spending programs like social security; medicare; and all government programs to run efficently.

I hope things change very soon or we will be standing in soup lines and growing food and hunt like people did in the 1800's

Why is FOX 6 not showing the love for Twitch on dance.  He is from Montgomery, Alabama and has a shot on winning the whole thing.  If he was on American Idol he would have the press like Ruben, Bo, and Talyor did.  Show the love Fox 6 or he will be gone next week, he was in the bottom 2 this week.

From cnn.

Phil Gramm, a top adviser to Sen. John McCain, on Thursday stood by his comment that the country is in a "mental recession," and said he was trying to say the nation's leaders, not its people, were "whiners."

Democrats blasted Gramm, who advises presumed Republican nominee McCain on economic matters, for saying Americans who have named the economy as a top concern this campaign cycle were "a nation of whiners."

McCain forcefully repudiated the remarks while campaigning in Michigan, which has the highest unemployment rate in the nation.

The comments came in a Washington Times interview published Thursday.

Us Americans know what is going on and having one of Mccain's Advisers call americans a "nation of whiners" will hurt Mccain. They said this while in Michigan; I have been and lived in Michigan and it is suffering badly. This will hurt Mccain in the long run and I suggest he fires Phil Gramm. icon_eek.gif

If you ask me how to solve our high gas prices, the answer is simple, we MUST do many things to solve this problem, here's how to do it.

1. WE must drill:  Just having the notion that we will drill for more oil will bring down the prices to around the $100 level and bring down prices, not only we must drill we must also get oil shale, and various things.  I do not support drilling in AWNR but that's another story. I do not think this is what you want to see if you go to gulf shores!

2. Lower the speed limit:  I think we need to go back to an national speed limit of 65 on freeways and 4-lanes and 55 everywhere else where permitted.  Every mph you drive over 60 reduces your fuel mileage in your care.  We have to be proactive in this and work as a country, and not be divided.

3. Use more trains:  We need to develop more trains and high speed trains.  Think about it, trains run very clean and much more cleaner than trucks.  We can develop an train infrastructure for freight and people that rivals europe's system.

4.Increase fuel mileage in cars: We need our government to increase standards in our cars so much that you get 35-50 mpg.  It would help big time.

5.Increase our dollar:  Why is our dollar tied to oil?  Until we stop the madness of all of these imports coming in and we increase our dollar, oil will remain high.

6.More mass transit:  We need this country to fund more mass transit!  More buses and light rail that run clean is great for us.  If we did that people would use a good mass transit system and not drive, lower gas demand means lower gas prices; plus it is a win-win for our environment and global warming.

7.Produce things locally:  Why are shipping things like fruits, veggies, and goods from California?  Why do we encourage local businesses to produce things and local farmers produce our corps for stores and markets, it would save a bundle on gas and lower demand.

8.Stop sprawl: We need to encourage people to stop living so far out form where you work and shop and have people move closer to cities.  People would use mass transit, drive less, and lower gas demand.

9.Develop pederstrian friendly cities:  We need to build more bike lanes and sidewalks so people are encouraged to ride a bike or walk instead of driving a car.  We also need to develop towns that have businesses, homes and other things together within walking distance.

10.Better building, infrastructure design:  If we designed our roads better with minimal stopping and idling we would reduce demand, we need to design buildings so  they use a lot less energy.

11.More nuclear and clean coal.  We need to build power plants that run cleanly.  Clean coal and nuclear are great sources to do this.

12.Tax breaks:  We need to give tax breaks for people who use mass transit, walk, ride a bike, moped, or scooter; or carpool, anyhting that stops people from driving by themselves.

13. Alternatives:  We need to fund alternaties because face it, oil will not last forever.  Ethanol that does not use food like corn.  hydrogen and natural gas are great alternatives for fossil fuels.

14.A Gas Tax holiday will not work:  If we took the gas tax away how we will pay for our roads?  This would only save about $30 bucks and would encourage people to drive more which would drive up gas prices and make the prices higher even with the gas tax applied to the price of gas.  This would not work!

15.Encourge people to be environmentally friendly:  Encourage people to grow gardens, replace bulbs, dry clothes outside, etc.  It would use less oil and drive down demand.

If we did all of these things, the price of oil would drop and america would be totally different. have a good day! -Nathan Young

Here is some good news for Birmingham,  the Tijeras Foundation in Albuquerque, N.M. ranked Birmingham as the most generous city in the U.S.A. out of 60 metro areas!  We give around 3.6 percent of our household income to charities every year!  2nd was Memphis at 3.4 percent and 3rd was columbia at 3.2 percent.  Now with Alabama having a lot of reglious people that is not a suprising fact.  I wish we gave more to charities but with the economic problems it is getting harder to give to less fortunate people.

AS a former Ohioan (born and raised in hudson, ohio) The new dui bill is a great step to take dui drivers off the road.  I have witnessed quite a few drunk drivers on the road and sometimes they can get away with it while blowing into the tube or doing field sobrity tests.

People driving drunk need to get an life and stay off the road, all they are doing is risking the lives of others on the road who are following the law.

Why in the world that Studpidot (aldot) can not do something about the i-20 interchange at i-59.  There has been so many accidents there it is unreal.  Aldot needs to do what other states would have done by now and redo that interchange to make it safer.  an interstate is not designed with a speed limit of 50 and an 35 mph curve for mainline interstate traffic.  our roads in birmingham suck and without extra funding and alabama's low low taxes our roads will stay being bad and will hurt birmingham in the long run.  How about the extra lanes on i-65 in shelby county too?  Aldot waits on the federal check for road projects and we hardly use any state funds for projects. you just can not do that!
