Ok, so to preface this blog, I have 3 beautiful children.  2 awesome boys ages 12 and 8 and a little not quite 2 year old diva.  Reminiscing back on how my boys were as babies I started to come to a realization...there IS a huge difference between boys and girls beyond anatomy, and it kind of scares me.  Now remember this is strictly non-scientific and based on 2 year olds.  And is completely satirical.  I love all 3 of the unconditionally.

Toys - The boys would play with anything they could get their hands on.  Especially if it makes noise.  If they couldn't figure it out they would move on to the next thing and go back to it later.  If we showed them how to use it the just ignored us and went on to the next thing.  Size didn't matter, color didnt matter, everything they owned was strung all throughout the house (and 6 and 10 years later that still hasnt changed but thats a whole nother story).

Now my daughter on the other hand is very meticulous about what she plays with.  She wants to know how everything works and if she cant figure it out she will shove it in our lap as hard as she can to make us show her.  Size does matter to her, the bigger and heavier it is the more she likes to throw it at us to show her how to make it work.  She will however, put her toy away after she is done using it and go on to the next one.

Ok and the only similarity I could find between the two was that she didn't really pay attention to us either when we showed her how to do it.

People - My boys were very outgoing.  They would talk to people in the grocery store, at the restaurants anywhere there were people they would talk.  They didn't care as long as mom or dad was around

My daughter on the other hand wont talk to anyone she doesn't know.  She is very shy...until the person walks away.  Then she will talk up a storm.  But if that person turns around and acknowledges her her head is back in my arms.

Television -  I thought there would be a HUGE difference in what the kids preferred and I was right .  My boys actually liked the Arthur and educational cartoons like that.  My beautiful daughter on the other hand prefers the Justice League and the animated Transformers. (personally I think my boys had a little to do with that)

Reading - The boys love it when I read to them.  My daughter takes off with the book and looks through it herself.

Dressing (or undressing) my boys were avid exhibitionists.  They would take off after getting their clothes taken off.  They had no care for humility.  They would show everyone their stuff at age 2.  My daughter....well ok she likes being naked too. I think my kids have issues.

Now to the conclusion, my boys are grown and pretty self sufficient aside from the "Whats for dinner and where are my socks"  But looking back on their baby years I'm thankful they were so easy.  But envisioning my daughter (who's 3 favorite things to have at once are a broken cell phone, her purse and my car keys) in the future, I think I'm hosed.

I was going to title this Christmas is over, but for alot of people in Colorado Christmas came early with the Rox going to the Series.  Don't get me wrong I'm ecstatic the Rox are headed there, but I have to say my heart hasn't fully been into the sporting world since October 15th.

That's the day my family's sporting world came crashing down.  That's the day we learned that the NLL had cancelled the season.  That's the day that we found out our guaranteed family outings for the first 3 to 4 months of 2008 were no more.  That there was going to be no Mammoth this season.

Now I purposfully waited 10 days to make this blog entry because I was hoping the Rox could possibly bring my family out of our disappointment.  But it hasn't.

I know the news stations don't cover the NLL because it isn't a "big sport" in Colorado.  Therefore there are hardly any stories written about the Mammoth.  And if they do get reported it's just a slight filler between stories.  But I assure you there are those of us out there who consider it as big as the Broncos, Nuggets, Avs or Rox.  And for those of us who revel in the exciting seasons the Mammoth have brought to us since they got here, we feel like we are living "The Grinch Who Stole Christmas 2007"

So I was reading a different news website when my eye caught this story...

DENVER – The widow of a man who killed the couple's 5-year-old son and himself inside a condominium a year ago is suing the city of Denver and the Denver Police Department.

The federal civil suit claims a Denver SWAT officer killed the man, Elias Santistevan, and his son, Deion.

In August 2006, Stantistevan kidnapped his son after getting into an argument with his wife, Chanell.

Police tried to talk him out, but after more than four hours of negotiations, police say he shot his son and then himself.

The autopsy showed both died of a single gunshot to the head.

Police have said they only went into the condo after they heard Santistevan shoot the boy.

The executive board of the Denver Police Protective Association put out a statement on Thursday, denying the claims made in the lawsuit.

"Denver Police officers were the targets of shots fired from the residents by Elias Santistevan after they responded to assist Chanell Santistevan. Officers risked their lives to find a solution to the incident," said the statement.

"The Denver Police Protective Association and officers involved, defend the procedures use to end the standoff and the integrity of the investigation. The procedures and investigation were consistent with the expectations of the public."

"The deaths of Elias Santistevan and Deion Santistevan were a tragic ending to a difficult call for service to the public. The officers involved in the standoff and the investigation were not only traumatized from the incident but from the false allegations set forth by the lawsuit." I just want to know what the heck is this woman thinking?  She calls the police because of her husband, and then wants to SUE them because she didn't get the outcome she wanted?  What's next?  Someone tries to sue the police department because they got pulled over and got a speeding ticket?  If this kind of BS keeps up, the phrase "Protect and serve" will have an asterisk under it stating "only if you sign a waiver". Man people like this infuriate me!!!

I know it is not the season for it yet, but this question popped into my mind while i was putting my deposit down on my season tickets for the 4th year.  Why do the local news stations choose not to cover the Colorado Mammoth?  And if by some miracle they do its just a mention of "the Mammoth beat/lost to such and such team tonight".

Is it just me or is that kind of disturbing?  THey will fully cover the semi pro football, baseball and basketball teams more than they will the Professional Lacrosse team.

If you don't know about the Mammoth I invite you to go to a game when the season starts up again.  Granted it's not until December, but I guarantee you will not have a better time at any other sporting event.  (Of course that my personal opinion becuase I'm a huge Mammoth Fan ;) )
