Becoming energy self-sufficient is now a topic being discussed by a growing number of members of Congress and the media. But two members of Congress want government to seize control of the oil companies, a stupid idea!

  • Maurice Hinchey (D-NY) has called for the federal government to seize control of oil companies. In a Washington Examiner editorial piece, Rep. Hinchey said, “We [the government] should own the refineries. Then we can control how much gets out into the market.”
  • Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) took the same approach, saying to oil industry executives: “Guess what this liberal (referring to herself) will be about? This liberal will be all about socializing - um, uh … will be about … basically … taking over, and the government running all of your companies.”

We have abundant energy reserves,  but efforts to provide for our needs end up in court because of the environmentalists.

And here is an interesting email I received this morining;

Gas rationing in the 70's worked even though we grumbled about
>> it.  It might even have been good for us!
>>           Are you aware that the Saudis are boycotting American products?
>> In addition, they are gouging us on oil prices.
>>           Shouldn't we return the favor?  Can't we take control of our
>> own destiny and let these giant oil importers know who REALLY generates
>> their profits, their livings?  How about leaving American Dollars in
>> America and reduce the import/export deficit?
>>
>>           An appealing remedy might be to boycott their GAS.  Every time
>> you fill up your car you can avoid putting more money into the coffers of
>> Saudi Arabia .  Just purchase gas from companies that don't import their
>> oil from the Saudis.
>>           Nothing is more frustrating than the feeling that every time I
>> fill up my tank, I'm sending my money to people who I get the impression
>> want me, my family and my friends dead.   The following gas companies
>> import Middle Eastern oil:
>>         &nbs p; Shell....................................      205,742,000
>> barrels
>>           Chevron/Texaco....................        144,332,000 barrels
>>           Exxon /Mobil........................       130,082,000 barrels
>>           Marathon/Speedway.............       117,740,000 barrels
>>           Amoco..................................       62,231,000
>> barrels
>>           And CITGO oil is imported from Venezuela by Dictator Hugo
>> Chavez who hates America and openly avows our economic destruction!  ; (We
>> pay Chavez's regime nearly $10 Billion per year in oil revenues!)
>>           The U.S. currently imports 5,517,000 barrels of crude oil per
>> day from OPEC.  If you do the math at $100 per barrel, that's over $550
>> million PER DAY ($200 BILLION per year!) handed over to OPEC, many of
>> whose members are our confirmed enemies!!!!! It won't stop here - oil
>> prices could go to $200 a barrel or higher if we keep buying their
>> product.
>>           Here are some large companies that do not  import Middle
>> Eastern oil:
>>           Sunoco...........................    0 barrels
>>           Conoco.........................   &nbs p; 0 barrels
>>           Sinclair........................      0 barrels
>>           BP / Phillips................       0 barrels
>>           Hess. .............................. 0 barrels
>>           ARC0..............................  0 barrels
>>           Maverick..........................  0 barrels
>>           Flying J. .......................... 0 barrels
>>           Valero............................    0 barrels
>>           Murphy Oil USA* .............  0   Sold at Wal-Mart , gas is
>> from South Arkansas and fully USA owned and produced.
>>             a.. *Not only that but they give scholarships to all children
>> in their town who finish high school and are legal US citizens..
>>           All of this information is available from the U.S.. Department
>> of Energy and each company is required to state where they get their oil
>> and how much they are importing.

interesting list.

i have read that in ww2 there were government issued stamps for sugar, shoes and gasoline. to enhance our economy that was not considered in the global war against terrorists. way back then families grew victory gardens to feed themselves so that most food would be sent to our soldiers overseas in europe and pacific ...

i am wondering if you know where these ‘okay’ companies do get their crude from? - besides murphy which you mentioned.

is this kind of like the nineteen fifties when congress harnessed our cotton farmers to give third world farmers an advantage to sell their cotton increasing their middle class. our government paid for some acreage to be laid aside then also told farmers that when/if they sold remaining acreage of cotton our usa farmer citizens would have to sell “above world market prices”.

the resulted in our usa garment factories soon following cheaper cotton overseas and i have never seen many dresses made in american for example. is there a similarity here between oil companies and cotton farmers? when our government made oil drilling unfavorable or off limits in many places then where do these guys to go to find their oil to make gasoline for us . . . ?

btw we do not purchase much middle east oil as under clinton we did not get the bids. china, india and japan did .... not sure the order of that list or all the countries which now supply themselves with middle eastern oil .....

thank you. there seems to be a lot of information missing doesnt there?

Hi Marilyn - The "list" was an email I received this morning that I thought was interesting so I posted it on my way out without researching. I'm not sure where Conoco and the others get their oil from. And I'm not sure how I feel about Boycotting stations that do import from the middle east. Something to look into I think. I enjoy reading your posts. Thanks for your thoughts.

i was wondering is all. you know i sometimes think they buy and sell their holding twice a week...

once i read russia had big part of conoco but that was when there was lots of quick drilling in warizeriastan. forgive the spelling but u know where i mean...then it was pointed out possibly insurance etc necessity ...because a few months later conoco belonged to someone else. it is hard to know whats true as i feel the media is not straight with us either.

i guess i feel sorry for them - we have depended on our oil companies for so long and libs enjoy kicking them...dreadful state of affairs the usa is in.

liberals love uproar! ;^(

Agreed. I remember reading that most of the crude oil purchased from Russia was actually from Iraq. So, Conoco couldn't be on that list! I just looked it up, and there are actually only three companies that are correct. They are - Sinclair, Sunoco and Hess. And these three little companies could not keep up with demand if a boycott were in place. Send the illegals home, or jump on the back of some libs bike and make them peddle you to work.

amazing! thank you for your post.

companies with all that big equipment and employees have to stay busy to pay their bill and if they cant drill off shore or at home some place they will of course just go work where needed.

much drilling in africa and many terrorists (of all kinds local and imported) attacks

maybe our guys can come home and work here soon

sometimes i visit each companies site to look for their latest technique or their research -

it helped me understand the soil structure over here that has to be dealt with

im sure you know this stuff dizzee but i didnt

the most interesting as it pertains to western slope is the multi pad drilling. it allows so much inflexibility. imagine a section of land and if they wanted to drill one spot but blm says naw! thats important then the drilling company says okay! and they move to the edge of section and drill at an angle reach that gas.

every one is happy except ritter. he is never happy he is a liberal! lol!

he is incredibly old fashion and uninformed and grumpy.

Nope...I don't even pretend to understand all this stuff. Just learning as I go along! Multi pad drilling is interesting. I didn't know that.

im learning details too...and all coloradoans perhaps...on some other blog i had a notation that the cost/# of workers to operate 1 rig was the same so as a conservative it certainly makes sense to me to drill 20 from one place. easier on the cost to reclaim later as well...but ritter being the old fashioned guy he is wants to the county commissioners to resend and go back to 1 pad 1 well.

ritter makes my jaw gap. he is neither a friend to the environment, businesses nor citizens approaching hi cost of every item they come in contact with....he and his kind are a puzzle to me.

you live over there nearer to him whats up?
