Today is a day when most red-blooded Americans take a moment to give thanks to the brave men and women who have served our Nation with honor and dignity.  Men and women who have sacrificed their time, their safety, and in many cases, their lives, in an effort to preserve our freedom.

Thanks, Veterans.  Can't say it enough.

What follows is a letter written during the Civil War.

Hits the nail on the head, I think...

Executive Mansion,
Washington, Nov. 21, 1864.

Dear Madam,--

I have been shown in the files of the War Department a statement of the Adjutant General of Massachusetts that you are the mother of five sons who have died gloriously on the field of battle.

I feel how weak and fruitless must be any word of mine which should attempt to beguile you from the grief of a loss so overwhelming. But I cannot refrain from tendering you the consolation that may be found in the thanks of the Republic they died to save.

I pray that our Heavenly Father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost, and the solemn pride that must be yours to have laid so costly a sacrifice upon the altar of freedom.

Yours, very sincerely and respectfully,

A. Lincoln

Thanks, Veterans.

We can't say it enough.

I'd also like to take a moment to give a shout out to all the active duty folks.

Heroes like our friend AlfaDawg.  Godspeed, Dawg.  Take care of yourself, brother.

If you have a minute, here is a great essay that is well worth taking the time to read:

All well and good BUT, if true we should have required de-briefing, that is to help Veterans return to civilian life. This is Vital.

I'm a Dad, a construction contractor, a foodie, an artist, and a patriot. I'm also very afraid. I used to live in the United States, but I now reside in latin America (and I never even had to move!). I like to argue current events with facts (along with simple, reasonable human logic). I don't suffer fools gladly, so liberals, please bring your facts (if you have any). I'm a huge Denver sports fan (30 years on the bandwagon), but my favorite teams are, by far, the ones my kids play on.
