Did we not just get rid of a Mayor here in Detroit who at the very least was...Controversial? Think about it. Who were Kwame's friends? Then WHY would we want to choose a President who is wallowing, just oozing in...Controvesy? Why Gen. Powell? Why.

I don't believe you when you say it's because of the 'negative tone' of McCain's campaign.

I don't believe you when you say it's because Palin was chosen as his VP.

I do believe that race has much to do with it as is clearly stated here:

I ask you Gen. Powell....If it was the negative tone as you claim...what of the DNC's AND the media's total lack of respect for Gov Palin and her family? That's ok? or is it something else?

I ask you Gen. Powell...If it's McCain's choice of VP that has swayed you to endorse Obama....what exactly is in Obama's resume which convinces you HE is qualified? Is it his tax plans (spread the wealth, socialistic [I know you said he's not a socialist..but please explain to me what "spread the wealth around" means]) policies? or is it his work as a community leader with the likes of ACORN which has swayed you? Perhaps it's his willingness to meet with the leaders of Iran, Syria, Venezuela, Cuba & North Korea without preconditions.

Well Gen. Powell, I believe you just kicked the United States of America right in the teeth!!! I personally am heart-broken. I wanted you to run AGAINST Obama... so as to ELIMINATE the racial undertones of this campaign...not fuel the fire. Powell showed over the weekend that he could still affect presidential politics, declaring his support for Democrat Barack Obama.

The prospect of Obama becoming the first African American president, Powell said, would "electrify the world," and the endorsement is already reverberating.

Given his decades as a professional soldier and high-ranking official in three Republican administrations, Powell carries weight with the military and moderate voters. Now, more of them could swing to Obama.

Even before Obama was first elected to public office as a state senator in Illinois, Powell was considered the odds-on favorite to become the first African American to head a major-party presidential ticket.

He looked to be a formidable candidate in the 1996 race: a black centrist, long an independent, who had led the victorious U.S. military during the 1991 Persian Gulf War. But he declined to run, citing concerns about his privacy and a lack of passion for political combat. There were also reports that his wife, Alma, feared for his safety.

Instead, Powell said, he would join the Republican Party, hoping that his involvement would broaden the GOP's appeal and humanize its attempts to reform social welfare programs.

"I believe I can help the party of Lincoln move once again close to the spirit of Lincoln," he said.

With his embrace of Obama, Powell, 71, has broken ranks.

The decision led to debate over his motives. Conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh suggested Powell's endorsement was rooted in race and the hope that Obama would become the first black president.

"I am now researching his past endorsements to see if I can find all the inexperienced, very liberal, white candidates he has endorsed," Limbaugh said in an e-mail. "I'll let you know what I come up with."

Powell, in his appearance on NBC's "Meet the Press," denied that race was the motivating factor. He said he had pondered a decision for months, and that he had told Obama, "I'll give you all the advice I can, but I'm not going to vote for you just because you're black."

Powell's decision to cross party lines, former associates said, is far more complicated than black and white.

"It was a painful thing for him to do, for sure," Larry Wilkerson, a retired Army colonel who was Powell's chief of staff at the State Department, said in an interview Sunday. "One of the principal parts of his character is defined by loyalty."

The Republican Party and Republican presidents "have done a lot for his career," Wilkerson said. Powell was President Reagan's national security advisor, then served as chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff under President George H.W. Bush before he became President George W. Bush's first secretary of State.

Adm. Henry Ulrich, the former commander of U.S. naval forces in Europe, said he thought Powell's decision was not easy.

"Colin Powell is a very, very, very bright, thoughtful person, and I can assure you that he did not enter into this endorsement without giving it lots and lots of thought and give it all the due process it deserved," Ulrich said. "I think it is remarkable that he has endorsed a Democrat, and so I am sure he didn't do it lightly.

"Sen. Obama is quite lucky and fortunate," he added. "It should have made his Sunday."

Well I'm so glad Nancy Reagan is still covered by her husbands insurance. Paid for by the tax payers. And NO she just doesn't have Medicare. She has full blown coverage by BC/BS paid by you and I.  So will Michelle Obama and ALL other politician's spouses. And President Reagan left her financially well off...something ANY person with the tenacity and drive can do in this country...well until it becomes the WELFARE NATION.

BUT DO YOU AND I HAVE INSURANCE? Ms. Longshot....if you don't have insurance coverage after working 22 years at a horse track that's your tough luck....you should have thought about that BEFORE you spent so many of your good years there....or instead of gambling it away you should have SAVED your money so you could retire comfortably and supplement your medicare!

Poor thing she broke her hip Fractured her pelvis idiot! like a million other seniors. But they thrown them out of the hospital whether they're ready to be released or not. But Dear Nancy will be there as long as it's nessessary. She was there 2 stinking days!!! Cheney will be covered by BS/BS long after he's out of office as V.P. as well paid for by the tax payers.

How sweet for them. Will we even get seen let alone treated if our hearts go on the blink?Just wait until we have socialized medicine....you'll wait for WEEKS just to be treated....true story...my husband works with his Canadian supplier....Canadian supplier's son is 14...broke his collar bone a few months ago playing soccer...went to SEVERAL (he has money) hospitals.....could not be treated for 6...YES SIX weeks...poor kid had to have his collar bone RE-BROKE and set again...sounds like great medical coverage to me...how bout you longshot?????  At least now you get treatment right away.

 

We would be dead because the hospital policies are, insured: Treat them. No ins.: SHOW THEM THE DOOR. Hum.....ever wonder how the illegals get coverage? And if you are poor in this country, you can get medicaid fairly easy!

We end up in caskets. You mean like Ted Kennedy's secretary? And that's the way it is.

Some newbe here has taken a very similar name as mine, so I am trying to change mine slightly to avoid any confusion. Don't in any way, shape for form want to be associated with him/her.

Longshot, Why do you not allow others with opposing views to comment on your post? How in the heck can you LEARN anything if you're not willing to listen to opposing/different views? What in the world do you do when you have a decision to make for yourself???

Who started the fire Longshot???? Have you heard of the 1999 Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act? SIGNED AND PUT INTO LAW BY BILL CLINTON??? Should either be taught in school?

Evolution is/was a theory of Darwin's which had no scientific basis what so ever (still doesn't). In fact Darwin himself said if there were not tons of fossils found showing the transitions, it would blow his theory all to hell....guess what? Not one fossil has been found.

I can understand not teaching about a Intelligent Designer because not all people believe in the same God....but why do we continue to feed our children the evolution lie?
