And even if you don't believe in the whole election system... if you believe or not in the wisdom (or lack of it, depenfing on your position) of the majority. If you believe or not in the man who was chosen... he very simply WAS chosen, by the majority you may or not believe.
You have a number of choices now.
~You can rejoice that the vote you cast was overwhelmingly rewarded. Since that isn't likely here, there are more options.
~You can choose to accept the man and his selected staff and believe that he and they will do the very best they believe can be done. You need not agree with every morsel of this campaign, but you are proud of your right to say so, and you use that right with care.
~You can choose to find enormous flaws in the election system and scream them to everybody who really won't hear you. If your guy had been elected, you wouldn't be screaming the flaws. In fact, you'd be defending them. So you DO have a right to your opinion. Just remember that you're also allowed to have unpleasant bodily functions, and most of us with good manners don't crap on the sidewalk.
~You can choose (and I've seen it here) to declare your "shame" at being an American. Frankly, I'm ashamed to have you. It's somehow your right to be here in shame, and by golly it's mine to wish (for you, of course) that you could get out of this country that suddenly so shames your existence. I will not tell you to go away if you don't like it. I only wish that you will find a more harmonious country. I'm not sure where that is, but I'm sure you can get directions to in on mapquest. Just watch out for the "swim across the ocean" part.
~Youcan believe that this is the most unbearably wrong thing that has ever happened to us, and you can say so. You can call it as racist as you want to call it, or you can call people stupid. You can hide in the anonymity of a screen ID and post ugly cartoons and (although it is a violation of copyrigtht law) you can post vast text from other news sites to support you. I guess you have to do that because you have no words of your own. And you call other people stupid.
~You can applaud the truth of the majority while you do not embrace it . You can stop shrieking in public popularity forums and make your reasonable voice (if you have one) heard in the places you WANT it to matter. Unless the only place you can matter is in the shrieking public popularity forums. If that is all you are, your voice is just abusive babble.
~You can be still and watch what happens. Somehow, I don't see that in anybody here.
~You can leave. There's a big world out there. If this event so distresses you, there is nothing keeping you here. Just ask Calco and some other guy who told a blogger to go away when she remarked that the atmosphere on this blogsite is abusive. All of you who thought on such a small scale then, might want to rethink it now that you don't like the new prez.
Look over those choices and select one. Select two or three. Select them all, because the ON:Y thing that matters is that you HAVE a selection to make.
We elected a man. He may be imperfect, but for crying out loud, so are we. It's the crying out loud that proves it.
