I think the vast differences in compensation between victims of the September 11 casualty and those who die serving our country in Uniform are profound. No one is really talking about it either, because you just don't criticize anything having to do with September 11. Well, I can't let the numbers pass by because it says something really disturbing about the entitlement mentality of this country. If you lost a family member in the September 11 attack, you're going to get an average of $1.185 million. The range is a minimum guarantee of $250,000, all the way up to $4.7 million.
If you are a surviving family member of an American soldier killed in action, the first check you get is a $6,000 direct death benefit, half of which is taxable.

Next, you get $1,750 for burial costs. If you are the surviving spouse, you get $833 a month until you remarry. And there's a payment of $211 per month for each child under 18. When the child hits 18, those payments come to a screeching halt.

Keep in mind that some of the people who are getting an average of $1.185 million up to $4.7 million are complaining that it's not enough! Their deaths were tragic, but for most, they were simply in the wrong place at the wrong time. Soldiers put themselves in harms way FOR ALL OF US, and they and their families know the dangers.

We also learned over the weekend that some of the victims from the Oklahoma City bombing have started an organization asking for the same deal that the September 11 families are getting. In addition to that, some of the families of those bombed in the embassies are now asking for compensation as well.

You see where this is going, don't you? Folks, this is part and parcel of over 50 years of entitlement politics in this country. It's just really sad. Every time a pay raise comes up for the military, they usually receive next to nothing of a raise. Now the green machine is in combat in the Middle East while their families have to survive on food stamps and live in low-rent housing...make sense?

However, our own US Congress voted themselves a raise. Many of you don't know that they only have to be in Congress one time to receive a pension that is more than $15,000 per month. And most are now equal to being millionaires plus. They do not receive Social Security on retirement because they didn't have to pay into the system. If some of the military people stay in for 20 years and get out as an E-7, they may receive a pension of $1,000 per month, and the very people who placed them in harm's way receives a pension of $15,000 per month.

I would like to see our elected officials pick up a weapon and join ranks before they start cutting out benefits and lowering pay for our sons and daughters who are now fighting.

Rush Limbaugh

This is beyond insane! How can we allow this to continue?

Yep... The widows of Kohbar towers, USS Cole, 2 Embassy bombings, etc. they didn't get compensation for lost pension, or anything like that. Military SGLI is small, and while on the surface says $250K its NOWHERE near that! BUT we all joined knowing thats all that was there. I must admit when I saw the "Jersey Gals" and all the families that lived in the quality they had, and sat there crying about how terrible it was, I had a hard time with any sympathy. Imagine the poor guy who was killed in a traffic accident on his way to work in the towers that day! He gets NOTHING but whatever he and the family planned, while had he made it to work.... the payday would have been substancially larger!!

Sort of an ugly unPC thing nobody really wants to talk about!! BTW for those of you that support Socialized Medical care... try talking to the military and their families about it because they live it!

This is such an outrage! I remember when my dad passed away. My mom had 5 children to raise. We got social security and his military pension, but just as it says above, it was so meager and when we turned 18, it was cut off. It's so unfair to think of how much our government officials are getting on a monthly basis! That is just not right! Our military deserves so much more!

Well, it all came along shortly around the same time they began to tax military pay. Here is the other one... Military pay is only about half of the take home dollar. Allowance and such are not taxed, but after 20 years when you retire you only get 50% of your "pay" NOT the money you actually earned. So military retirement is really only around 30-35% NOT 50%

Then if you are not at least 40% disabled, you being DoD employees must pay your own disability out of your own pension! DOE,DOT,DOA, etc ALL get concurrent receipt of pension AND disability! I had 40% but Clinton's VA top person made sure they obstructed VA ability, and they actually reduced my disability to get under the 40% number thus saving them money!

I have MANY untold stories about military policy and practices as others here do....

Yet the idiots in Washington are getting $15,000.00 a month to retire on! Must be nice! THAT MAKES ME SO MAD!!!!!!!

Wll Id88.. Its sort of like this... There are careers out there that people go into because they like the work instead of how it pays.

The military has afforded me things no other type of work or career could ever offer. But yes, it is the ONLY organized work force that does not have a Union. A good thing really as I can't stand unions anyways, but imagine if the Armed Forces in their 1.5 million active employees were affored their own electoral votes! Hey, if the District of Columbia can get 3 votes, I say the military should get at least 5. I bet the treatment of DoD personel would be different, AND if you added the retired members and the families.... thats a HUGE group!

It's just frustrating when you think about it. The officials in Washington can give themselves raises yet won't take care of the very people they're sending off to defend this country.

Hey Abunai, what do you think the chances are that there could be a terrorist attack here in Denver? I really don't think this would be a target. It's too far in from the borders.

Hmmm...Well, If I had to guess, I'd say that during the Democrat Convention you could see some activity. What most people don't think about is that, these groups are VERY patient. They might for example, test the physical secuirty measures during the convention. Look for weakspots or how to make them. If I take a backpack and just drop it on the sidewalk with wires hanging out of it, how long will it take to be recognized.. how far to they move the public back, and where. (like where to put a second device) Do they bring other forces in to deal with the event, or pull them from another postion and make a weak spot somewhere else. How secure are building tops, If I walk in the exit in a crowd instead of a normal entry point, does anyone stop me and check or do they just yell at me for not following the rules and let me continue on? How good is the bag search area? you open my cooler, but what about the fake bottom and hollow area of that cooler I could fill with explosives or excellerant...

Things like this are NOT in the everyday citizen's thought process, but they ceratainly are to the bad guys...

Cont. How many people would think twice when its 95 degrees outside, and that one guy wearing long and loose clothing or a jacket seems to be wandering in the crowd of people that are with a party of people or in pairs.. who goes to a public event alone? Does he keep looking to a point in the area looking for something?

The latest news at the Capital a great example! Normal weekday, people in groups on tours, and its almost 100 degrees outside, in walks a guy in a tux? alone? How many people saw him and didn't give him a second though... Except for the formal wear employee woman who thought the man was odd and call authorities. Now she was on her toes!!

WOW!!!! All of these things that I never would have thought about. I completely forgot about the Dem Convention. (Shows how much that means to me!) LOL!! I just don't think of Denver as being a hot spot for terrorism. I'd think that LA or NYC would be the best "targets". Just because they're easier to get to.

Hey, since we're "alone" right now.... Are you the same SM that I saw on the internet that's the artist?

no.. Thats not me. lol Yea I googled my own name once and saw that guy, but no.. Im just a regular conservative who has had the chance to see a few things and had some trainning that most Americans will never see or think about.

Probably why I get so frustrated here with many of the liberals who spout senseless crap and talking points. They either don't have any idea what goes on in the real world, or they pretend not to for selfish reasons, which leave their children to have to deal with it.

Thats why everytime I hear the typical comment about people's sons and daughters dieing in Iraq... Well YOU had the chance to effect the changes on your own watch and refuse to take care of problems when they were much smaller. Now your children must deal with it and you should be ashamed!

If people think thats spin... then lets just talk about Social Secuirty then shall we... (now tell me that mentality isn't there on a large scale...)

911truthCO.. Thats a good debate! Tell ya what, bring your FACTS (not to be confused with concensus or theory) and lets debate it!

I already shut down a Chemistry Prof. and a Political Science prof. in Boulder with facts that are left out of the conspiracy theory...

Just please bring SOMETHING better than "fire doesnt melt steel" thats where I will have to bring forth the facts that are left out...

you bring you facts and i will bring mine
question is.... where would you like us to convene?

But! let us first (for clarification) refer to the merriam webster....

conspriacy = a secret agreement to do an unlawful or wrongful act

and

theory = the analysis of a set of facts in their relation to one another

and why are you afraid of "fire doesnt melt steel"/ with out thermite).....?

all in all.... it appears that we may be on the same wagon... no?

Do you REALLY think that 9/11 was a conspiracy? What are your thoughts on the possible upcoming "attack" that might occur here on US soil?
