I felt the need to write this blog after experiencing a racially toned situation at my daughters middle school that the school has swept under the rug.  Let me explain...

My daughters 7th grade math teacher, who has been filling in for the regular teacher that went on a leave of absense, has been conducting the class in spanish.  My daughter, along with many other students in the class, do not speak spanish and have expressed their frustrations to the teacher about this letting him know they do not understand what he's saying.  When he is speaking spanish they have to sit there and wait.  When he's done speaking in spanish, my daughter has to ask the spanish speaking students what he said and they are kind enough to translate for her.

Last week during class, the teacher was teaching in spanish again so my daughter asked him to speak english so she could understand the lesson too.  He told her that it didn't matter if he was speaking spanish or teaching math that the students don't understand him anyway and then countinued to make a comment that "if it wasn't for his people...".

I didn't finish what he said beause it doesn't really matter what he said after that comment. The simple fact that a teacher would behave and speak in such a matter in a classroom environment is absolutely unacceptable.  My daughter, along with several other students, were offended and complained to the school.  When the school officials met with the teacher and the offended students the teacher played the "ignorant" card and said he didn't know what he said offended anyone.  The school then explained that since there were only two weeks of school left to not worry about.  That was it.

So here's my question... since when is it socially exceptable for racial comments to be made in a school environment?  This teacher is in a trusted position of authority and is supposed to be a role-model for the students.  By not taking action, especially since the school year is almost over, the message the school is sending the students is that it's ok to make racist comments as long as it's at the end of the school year.  I bet that if a student went to school this week and made a racist remark that student would have to pay the penalty.  As a parent I now have to explain to my daughter why the school thinks it's ok for some people to be racist and others it's not.  What are the schools really teaching our children?

Several things are wrong with this situation and I think the teahcer and the school are at fault and need to be held accoutable for their actions not matter what time of year it is.

Where's this at?

I'd have this nutsack fired and replaced with the pizza delivery guy in the news blogs looking for a job.

Hey, Foxnews, do the right thing and expose this school!

Start a lawsuit against the schoolboard, let not the children suffer adult stupidity, if the schoolboard and government will not provide checks, balances and guidelines, then the parents and public have a responcibility to take action. What the children witness, reguardless of the time of year, will stay with them in life and distort their hopes and dreams of the future..

I think this is a made up story.

If this had really happened, you would not have just posted it without names... of at least the school.

Next to which, you would have filled a discrimination law suite, holding the school district accountable. If the story is factual and true, then you would definitely have a winnable case.

Just to clarify, this story is NOT made up. This situation happened last week at Mrachek Middle School. My wife and I are still appalled over what has transpired. The situation is new and we haven't even thought about legal action but have talked about going to the school board.

going to the school board on your own would be the 'nice' thing to do.

If this were the other way around, and it were a minority being treated this way, and school staff not caring, it would be all over the 5 o'clock news.

side note:
I'm Hispanic, and perhaps other Hispanics would call me a traitor, but I don't care. I am logical, and fair. The same people that would call me this are racist themselves. Treat everyone the same I say. A Hispanic child has just a good-a-right to get the same quality education as a White, and vice versa.

This teacher you illustrate is a selfish hypocrite that thinks he can get away with doing whatever he wants... and he has, and he will if you don't do something about it.

You must consult counsel immediately and write down everything that happened along with witnesses (perhaps the students that don't speak English (and if you can find a Hispanic kid that doesn't speak English, it would be golden -that way they can't say you're being racist even though that would be a futile point to prove)).

Let the attorney take it to the board.

Give it to fox! and the rest. Let them run with it. I am curious to know what the full comment was. Oh, and get a lawyer and sue! It's the only way "politically correctness gone a muck " can be a addressed! But who knows, this guy might be an illegal.........

I don't know that taking this to the media is the answer, with their liberal bias. But please do talk to a lawyer! It's ridiculous when American students are deprived of an education in their own schools - all because of students who are likely here illegally and are too lazy to learn English. Sounds to me like it's the Americans who are the minority here, and they are being openly discriminated against.

One of the reasons that this kind of thing happens in this country, is because the other side will always make a big enough stink to get things done. They get offended and they call in their attorneys and officials get scared. We need to do the same thing if we hope to get anything accomplished.

I highly recommend that you contact the American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ).

Here is their contact info.

www.aclj.org

Legal Helpline Phone: 757-226-2489
Legal Helpline Fax: 757-226-2836

Often, all it takes is for the school to be contacted by the ACLJ and they will do something.

I hope you've made a daily job of complaining loudly to the school about this teacher. He needs to take his axe-grinding elsewhere. As for the contributions of "his people," excuse me, in what language are the Declaration of Independence and Constitution? It seems to me "our" people won and he and a whole bunch of others need to get over it and our leaders need to stop apologizing for winning.

Send a tape recorder to school with your child and instruct him/her to sit it in plain view of the teacher, to tell the teacher the lesson will be taped and then proceed to tape it. I would also pay a parental "visit" daily, to sit in the classroom and video tape this guy.

Either he would straighten up his act or you would have the evidence you need.
