I am considering a Satellite internet service through Dish network.  I am tired of this dial up crap.  It sucks EDIT secretion.

Anyone here have satellite internet?  Am I making a mistake?  It is almost a done deal.

I will actually save money by getting rid of phone line and isp and switching service from directv.  I will pay less than I am now and get high speed internet and more channels of tv than I currently get to boot.

How is the service?  Any problems besides sunspots and storms?

Please let me know,  I haven't been here much this week because of phone line problems causing a very slow connection.

Thanks in advance.

Sarge.

Sarge, I use At&T with just their basic speed; Along with the phone from them, it costs me roughly $75 per month. And that rate is not a promotional one that expires in 6 or 12 months. My Internet is just as good if not better than the Comcast I had. However, my brother had a sattelite dish system a few years back and he had trouble with the TV signal when the winds were up. He has WOW now. Hope this helps and good luck!

There are numerous options in my area that I am just on the outside edge of (can't get it)
I wanted to get wireless and tried 3 different companies and I wanted to get a Sprint PCI card and same thing. The only option I have is satellite. I know I can get it anywhere.
As far as start up costs, it will be $100, dish REALLY wants me to switch from Directv and made their package affordable. I never had satellite internet from Directv because the start up cost was $400, too much to pay for equipment and find out I don't like it. Before I moved my phone connection was so good that regular browsing wasn't to bad, downloads sucked though. Now, out here especially after that 16 inch snow storm we had, phone lines have alot of noise causing poor connection.
Colt, I will wait for your information. Thanks everybody for your help.

Hey sarge, I had Dish for a few months and HATED it! I did not have it for internet services though.... just t.v. every time the wind blew too hard lost a connection, snow build up on dish, lost connection ( you have to go out and brush snow off the satellite yourself) heavy rain...lost connection would freeze up the digital and your picture would stop. and I'am in sterling heights!!!!!! I have comcast for t.v. phone and internet pay 100.00 a month for all three. hope that helps.

Hey Mom, I know of the frustrations with a dish, however if proparally installed and placed in an accessible place, it is not bad.
If you lost a signal because of wind, the dish wasn't installed properly. I don't like having to sweep the dish off either, but if thats what I have to do than so be it. It is better then only having 3 channels, like when I grew up. Thanks for the tip.
