I remember as a pre-teen, a preacher came to our church for week long series of services.  We didn't call it a revival.  Well, the preacher ended up staying about 6 weeks, and the series of meetings turned into a REVIVAL in the church, and in the community.  The church did not "plan" to have a revival, just some good preaching from an excellent speaker.

I often see churches put up signs, put up a tent, invite in a special speaker and call it a REVIVAL.  It kind of baffles me.  I look back on my pre-teen experience, and it was not planned.  How is it that some churches think they can PLAN a REVIVAL?

Doesn't REVIVAL start in the hearts of the people, and doesn't it then spread through the community?

What is your take on this?  Can you PLAN a REVIVAL?

I'm quite alive and vibrant.  Do I need a REVIVAL? Or is the term REVIVAL another misused word?

Gone are the days when a church just puts up a sign in front of their building that says "REVIVAL" and people flock to that church to hear what God might have for them.

Well said. A revival of the heart will surely succeed, a scheduled revival might not.

Our is, right now. We have a well known "Revival Evangelist", Randy Lamb visiting for 3 days.

Deb, was it planned? I don't want to seem cynical, but did it grow out of the hearts of the people in the local church? Are you being revived by it? Is the rest of the church? The Community? The PASTOR?

Well, Randy Lamb IS in "high demand," so in that sense, yeah it had to be planned, as far as scheduling him to be here. THE church itself is certainly being "revived," from what
I've seen. Many, many people (some new, some familiar) have been saved, many have "rededicated", and many have "come forward," to "lay on the altar" fervent prayers for unsaved people they know. I don't think any of it is "just for show," I believe it's ALL genuine.

Dear S,

A Real Holy Spirit Revival happens when this Happens!

(2Chronicles 7:14) if My people, who are called by My name, shall humble themselves and pray, and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from Heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

A sign of Real Revival...

(Luke 19:8-9) And Zacchaeus stood, and said unto the Lord; Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor; and if I have taken any thing from any man by false accusation, I restore him fourfold.
(Luke 19:9) And Jesus said unto him, This day is salvation come to this house, forsomuch as he also is a son of Abraham.

Why No Revival....?

(Amo 8:11) Behold, the days come, says the Lord Jehovah, that I will send a famine in the land; not a famine of bread nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the Words of Jehovah.

Real HS Revival starts.. FIRST.. In Your Heart!

Thanks, Roger459

Hi Sipedo

Great question. My church is currently no in revival, but we are praying fervently for it. I do not believe "revival" can be scheduled. It begins in the heart of believers. Judgement must begin at God's house first. Holy Spirit revival is a soverign move of God. We pray believing He will move upon His followers. We need His presence only not stuff. We are seeking the kingdom we pray for a move , spreading and salvation of souls to His Glory. We are believing for revival, not scheduling.

That is a healthy perspective elkahna. Praying for revival is what needs to be done in all of our churches across this country.
