SIPEDO SEZ

I was raised in a church that had a more Arminian theology when it comes to salvation.  In addition to that, I had a mother who acquired her theology not from others, but from reading the Bible.  She did not believe you could lose your salvation.

I have wrestled with this topic on occasion, but do not let it consume me.  I really do not believe a person can lose their salvation for one simple reason, and it's found in arguably the most popular single verse in the Bible.  John 3:16,  God loved mankind so much that gave all that he could give in the person of Jesus, His only son, and that whoever believes on Him (Jesus) will not perish but have ETERNAL LIFE.

ETERNAL LIFE.  Think about it for a moment.  What does that mean?

If it is eternal life, then that means FOREVER!

How is it then that some would teach that you can lose your salvation?

The verse does not say TEMPORARY LIFE.

There are a lot of verses that support the idea that there is eternal security in Jesus Christ.

There are some verses that might lead someone to believe they can lose or walk away from God, but I have found they are often taken out of context, or even misconstrued.

At this point, I have to reject the idea of Salvation Lost

Why in the world would anyone not want to be a Christian if you can accept Jesus as your savior and commit rapes, murders, armed robberies, etc. and still go to heaven because you cant lose your salvation.
I'm dumb founded.

Sip, Agreed!

Cro - When I came to Jesus, it was on His terms not mine. Thus it involved repentance (the recognition that I was wrong and need to be rescued and change). I was transformed (metamorphasized) and my desires were no long for evil but for good.

I guess you will remain dumbfounded by my response. I think that your worldview (that I may or may not have correctly summized through your blog posts) would make it difficult for you to understand why I wouldn't want to do all those things you mentioned if I had a guarantee of heaven. To have that mentality would be indicative of a LACK of transformation, thereby begging the question if such a person ever had saving faith.

So really, the answer "Why not" question is that it involves admission of wrong and yielding of control ... two things that many people will never choose to embrace.

Simply put, if one continues in the ways of the world, and in commission of crime, they are only giving lip service to their "faith."  Nowhere in the Bible does it ever say someone can be forgiven for sin they have committed deliberately and with conscience.

One must own their error and be truly sorry they did it.  "Repentance" means a U-turn on the path, and without genuine repentance there can be no forgiveness, nor salvation.

Uh-oh - the New Window thing didn't work on that link.  Sorry, Cro.

To speak to the thread - one cannot lose their Salvation, BUT, they can fool themselves and others by making a profession of faith and never really making the commitment, or they can walk away from it and quit altogether the pursuit.

IT IS A DAY BY DAY COMMITMENT AND PURSUIT!

Before you guys think I am being anti-Christian. I will say I'm not. I dont attend church, nor have I ever "repented".
I just for the life of me, cant see how you can not lose the promise of Heaven if you turn away from God.
Preachers have done it. All sorts of religious leaders have done it and if I read this correctly, they still get to go to Heaven.
I just cant buy into a God letting you into Heaven after turning the other cheek (pun intended) and going to a life of sin after living a life of a Christian.

If one has truly committed in their heart, why would they want to walk away? I believe they were never "saved" in the first place.

Of course we may stumble and fall back a little, but Cro, the circumstances you suggest first is indicative of a person who has never made a true commitment to Christ to begin with.

I think I'm with Arky on this one. You can always present a case where one scripture may contradict another. And there is always a case for profession of faith and not committing to the required true "change of heart". A savage serial murderer, may confess every night, but his continuous walk in this nature shows no change or repentance. He is not turning away from the sin!!!

Jesus did tell people, go, and sin no more.... That means, "don't keep doing the same sin over and over". If a person keeps getting drunk and beats their wife and children and shows up every Sunday in church, and is the first one at the alter call, they have not changed their behavior........ They have not truly repented. It's just a plain example of "MOCKING" God/Jesus. That's why there is a judgement seat.

If everyone just got a free pass, there would be no need for the "Judgement Seat".

I agree with PD. "You can always present a case where one scripture may contradict another."

That is so true!

"Ya see here you got this here M-16 5.56 caliber automatic rifle. Now this is the kind of weapon Jesus would use to kill terrists with if they don't repent!!!"
