Earlier this week Carnival Corporation consisting of: Carnival, Costa, Cunard, Princess, Holland America and every other cruise line operated by Carnival added a fuel surcharge to their cruises. They increased the 1st and 2nd passenger rate by $5.00 per person, per day capped off at $ 70.00 per person. I just got a memo that British Airways is increasing their fuel surcharge another $ 20.00 per flight.

Just an example of taxes and fees and blah, blah, blah...

Roundtrip air from New York to London: Ticket cost is $ 114.50 each way. Add taxes and fees $ 527.29 roundtrip.

Cruise 7 night Alaska  cruise price $ 719.00 per person. With taxes and the new surcharge $ 1083.74. In some cases on short cruises the taxes were more than the actual cruise.

You can bet when gas goes down, these surcharges will NOT go away!

Businesses have to pass on the cost increases to the customer. Everything from food to vacations are affected.

Tell me do you honestly think if gas prices go down that the cost of a gallon of milk will go down too? I don't.

I was hoping to be able to take a vacational cruise to Alaska one day...that's out of thoughts now! Maybe I could win a trip! Daught it! Oh well, I'll be staying home as usual...can't afford any kind of travel now!

I've never been on a cruise before and that this rate, there is a slim chance I'll even be able to afford one...oh well.

Slgps, I was told yesterday, when you are traveling on a cruise ship and you are out in international waters, you are no longer, even with your passport, considered an American citizen. Is this true, or is someone trying to pull my chain?

Once you get into international waters, you are on the soil of the vessels flag. YOU are always American. Laws regarding Casinos, and alcohol do not need to follow the rules of the United States.

Casinos and alcohol. Sounds like a lovely way to spend an afternoon. One day I'm going to Tampa, I want to gamble just once before I die, just don't want to be surrounded by sharks while doing it. LOL

Thanks Sl.
