can we stop basing our political beliefs on one or two issues that pertain directly to us?  i may be wrong, but in my converasations with peers,  only one or two issues dominate political choices.  for example, i have a co worker, who in all opinions, would seem a democrat, but states that he could not vote for a dem because they support gay marriage!  as my teen would text, EDIT!  do we really have to throw out the baby with the bathwater like this?  your opinions would be great

This is the way peolle do this today..I would classify myself as a "Conservative Democrat", an oxy-moron according to some. I do NOT like the liberal ways of some of the Republicans or Democrats. But i would not base my voting pattern on trendy issues", but the core issues. I really don't feel that ANY of the candidates will be able to accomplish much in one term, there are FAR more problems that need to be cleaned up first. But the next 4 years will tell us who meant business, and who was blowing smoke, no matter who gets elected, and then in the next election, things will be better (hopefully) and we can vote on who can get things done...I am sure ALL eyes will be on Clinton, Obama, AND McCain for the next 4 years to see if they meant what they say, no MATTER who is elected..I know I will.

i agree fully. i, for one do not see the term "Conservative Democrat" as an oxymoron. i'd might even classify myself as the same, although, i'm not big on labels. we have to take all issues before us as a collective. thank you for your comments. i would also thank those comments that oppose my opinion.
