Couldn't resist!

I reference Baldwin, Florida Town Council, Ordinance 2007-17.

...the Town Council of the Town of Baldwin has found that the welfare of the residents of the Town of Baldwin is hampered and imposed upon by persons intentionally wearing their pants below their waist for the purposes of  exposing themselves and their undergarments...

Remember the days of yore when jeans and pants went to the waist and even the renegades wore their jeans up and t-shirts merely untucked?

Then it happened.  (Was it Mariah?) A popular singer went to a photo shoot, was displeased with the small "roll" that appeared over her tight jeans, and she cut off the waist; thus, the birth of the low-rise jean for girls.  (Not sure if this, too, gave birth to the low low rise for boys.)

I was riding in the car on 19 with my hubby, and we were extremely amused by the young man hopping down the side of the highway.  His jeans were slung down to just above his knees!  This is "cool"???????????????  He was about to trip and fall! Other people were noticing and laughing at him, too.

When I take my daughter jeans/pants shopping, I make her sit on the floor so I can check the view from behind and see if there is any butt-cleavage going on.  If there is, the selection stays at the store.(NOTE: For me there IS a difference between strolling around all day with butt cleavage swaying back and forth and a good old-fashioned 2-second mooning out a car window, but that's just my opinion.)

I once saw on ebay an ingenious and humorous item for sale called "butt spackle."  You can imagine the usage suggested!

I don't think I will ever understand the coolness of showing off boxers, and I surely am not going to let my daughter suggestively moon the world (this is one of those arguments I do choose to have with her).

But I must say I applaud the efforts of yet another small town to RECTify a small, but annoying trend.

I like your style. Great job with your daughter!

Newberry, huh? How cool! We're only twenty miles from Newberry via Alachua County Road 235 and 241. There is a GREAT barbecue restaurant in Newberry - Newberry's Backyard Bar-B-Q. The best iced tea around and banana pudding that'll knock your socks off. You have to try the thick-cut bar-b-q pork chops!

P.S.: "RECTify" - LOVE IT!

Mornin' Floyd!

That side of our family is at the core of the very old Finnish community in Newberry. My granddaddy, rest his soul, raised us with a pride in that heritage: The Finns were the ONLY country to EVER repay its debt in full to the USA...)

Needless to say, we had family pride and a firm belief that one represent's one's family when one goes out into the world... Respect yourself and be respectful of others. Putting one's behind on display regularly just doesn't meet those standards.

My daughter has resigned herself to me. ;-) And honestly, she has discovered that taking those low low rise jeans in for a fitting can result in quite embarassing remarks about butt cleavage in the store (other moms smile, other teens roll their eyes) so she has slowly learned that perhaps checking it before she takes it for fitting is a good idea. She mutters about having a sarcastic mother, but at least there is laughter in the corrections.

(Thank you!)

I have said this before, when you have to walk bow legged and can't shake hands with people cause your pants will fall down IF you CAN'T HOLD THEM UP, then "HOUSTON, WE HAVE A PROBLEM".

I'm all for fashion, but people are now ending up with deformities due to this constant bowed walk.

My daughter can't stand the way it looks and would NEVER consider a young man who represents himself in such a way. Very smart on her behalf, cause the pastor would be sitting at the front door cleaning her gun as Mr. droopy drawers came a-calling......

PS - We've done barbecue there!

But grandmother was a great cook and I recall WONDERFUL breakfasts of the pan fried bass Granddaddy an I'd caught that morning, grits, biscuits, garden tomatoes and coffee.

Florida cracker? Mebbe. Southern definitely. But it suits me jes' fine! :-)

Low slung jeans came into style in 1991. You can thank Mark Walberg of Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch for this trend setting fashion statement. I remember if our dad saw our jeans in this fashion you just might wake up on the floor. B.T.W. It was the Good Vibrations video that set this one off.

Yay for your dad and yay for you surviving it all! (Hi exiledone!) I'd seen an interviw with (I think it's Mariah not J-Lo) inwhich she actually kinda' claimed the tend as her own....

Funny how these things catch on then EVERYONE claims them as their own, huh?

'course, the flu's a'catchin' too but I don't see anyone claiming to have startd that one! LOL

We have watched Good Day Tampa Bay and Fox News 13 since it became Fox many, many years ago. I've lived on this coast since 1982 but hail from Horse Country, TN. In RL I not only run two websites, but am researching a compilation work for publication (I can disappear for days in my books!) I work with wildlife (naturally Cynthia Smoot is one of my fave journalists!) and I like to participate in the "wildlife" here on the Blogs - a little human interaction is a refreshing change on occasion. However, hiding behind a monitor does not give one license to be rude; personal attacks reveal their maker's own inadequacies and insecurities as a speaker. (Is that the best ya' got???) Thoughts and opinions may differ (thank God for choice as Americans!), but the more reasonable a differing opinion sounds, the more likely the listener is to consider it fairly. Be safe, be fair, be nice - and most importantly, don't run with scissors. They haven't invented downloadable bandaids yet.
