All right. I will not attempt to delve into global economics, international business or world trade, as I can admit readily I am not knowledgeable at all in that respect (and there are likely others like me), BUT....

It would SEEM to me that with the COST of all the recalls etc. involved with these issues, perhaps we need to rethink farming out so much of our business to China, and, if it MUST be sent overseas, select another country hungry to do business with us.

Weren't the pet food recalls China-based?

What about the Mattel toy recall for lead paint?

Now Heparin. (Though the FDA isn't "sure" yet...)

I would sincerely appreciate some of the heavy-weights (brains!) weighing in on this an sincerely explaining to me WHY we continue to do business if there are starting to be these kinds of issues.

Thank you. :-)

Since I'm a PeaBrain, I ain't no heavy weight, but I'd guess that since China owns so much of our debt of late, perhaps they feel they don't have to answer to us on things like regulations?

Just a thought...

Maybe if we farm out to Mexico, all the illegals will go back?

Believe it or not, I was able to find a mailbox that was made in the USA.

Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not part of the rabid "Buy American" crowd. I believe the old expression holds true: "Real Americans buy what they want." Hey, I own two Toyotas and two Yamaha motorcycles. Quality products all the way.

But I try like heck to avoid buying Chinese CRAP. If the Chinese made worthwhile goods, I'd buy them. Go to Bed, Bath & Beyond and try to find ANYTHING that's not Hecho en China. You can't do it. I have a Hewlett-Packard calculator that I use at work. It's Chinese and it just LOOKS like garbage. H-P used to make a great product. It's sad.

When we quit BUYING their 5h!t, they'll quit manufacturing 5h!t.

Another great post from thebradleys!

[pats seat in non-heavy-weight pew - "Plenty of space moonowl! come sit next to me!" LOL]

Good morning Jumpy! (Any news???? Prayers coming your way!) Excellent thought - and goodness knows with the "ease" with which Mexican trucks are now allowed across the borders (wasn't that a recent issue???) the cost of transporting the goods back here would decrease. In theory anyway....

Hey Floyd! Us, too. Sadly, it's almost unavoidable finding products American made in many stores, though we try!

Thank you.

*waves to everyone & plops down next to thebradleys*

My sister's New Years Resolution was to not buy anything from China. She's frustrated as heck and it's only March.

Gotta love Globalization. We're all gonna be slaves.. ;) ...oh wait, we are already. Slaves to the ever-decreasing Dollar.

I remember when Walmart was Made In America products all the way. After Sam died, well... not so much.

whee... Weren't we once manufacturing capital of the world? *scratches head* Ah yes again, gotta love globalization. It is all about the bottom line.

No wonder they call Ron Paul a kook.

No news yet. I went to the Dr. yesterday. She did a non-stress test and everything was fine. I go today for an ultrasound to see how big the baby is and if there's enough fluid around her. If those two things are fine, I have to wait until Monday to find out if they will induce me.

I, myself, am finding it frustrating. I'm so worried about her even though she's moving fine. I don't think I can wait any longer. And I think she's gonna be HUGE. Maybe the ultrasound will provide some relief- that either she's smaller than I thought, or they're just gonna get on with it and induce me.

We are doomed because of our greed for a short term profit by the corporate/industrial complex.

The evil commies have pledged to bury us and they are on their way.

China will have a space program superior to ours in the near future and then they will rule the universe.

No argument, YD. However, greed is not exclusive to the "coproate/industrial complex".

Greed is rampant in society as a whole. Example: The collapse of the housing market. This was caused by unbridled demand which was fueled by GREED - pure & simple. But that greed really had nothing to do with government or industry.

Take a look at the recent run-up in commodities (oil & gold). Pure speculation fueled by greed.

One of the seven deadly sins Freak.

Greed, sex or power will be the ruin of many a man.

We have watched Good Day Tampa Bay and Fox News 13 since it became Fox many, many years ago. I've lived on this coast since 1982 but hail from Horse Country, TN. In RL I not only run two websites, but am researching a compilation work for publication (I can disappear for days in my books!) I work with wildlife (naturally Cynthia Smoot is one of my fave journalists!) and I like to participate in the "wildlife" here on the Blogs - a little human interaction is a refreshing change on occasion. However, hiding behind a monitor does not give one license to be rude; personal attacks reveal their maker's own inadequacies and insecurities as a speaker. (Is that the best ya' got???) Thoughts and opinions may differ (thank God for choice as Americans!), but the more reasonable a differing opinion sounds, the more likely the listener is to consider it fairly. Be safe, be fair, be nice - and most importantly, don't run with scissors. They haven't invented downloadable bandaids yet.
