one use to sit on edge of his desk and describe in detail events as if he had been in the mix and it had happened only yesterday....everyone came early to his class and he had to push us out the door.

it was excited

My son took Advanced Placement American History as a sophomore, and his teacher was fantastic! He worked his butt off, but he went on field trips all around the state, attended civics speaches at Mt. Vernon Country Club (once they had the St. John's Episcopal Church's Muslim cleric, an Imam, Ibrahim Kazerooni. He inferred that Americans were like Hitler, and every old veteran in the audience stood up and challenged him- he lied about so much, even my fair-minded hubby was incensed- a real learning experience!), etc. He knows more than I do because of this class- he could easily answer every question- they aren't hard, and a new citizen should have AT LEAST this much knowledge to prove their commitment to a new country!

agreed but the illegals don't do it as they are illegal. the questions are simple this should be basic history. I wonder about proficiency in english? does not appear to be a priority even amongs the native kids.

Was the test harder in the 1920's and 30's? My Dad was telling me today about my great-Grandma Bettina who came here as an adult from Gaeta, Italy. She made a deal w/my Dad- he would teach her all about American history and gov't, and she would teach him math- they learned together, and she got her citizenship and was so proud- it sounds like it was a lot more detailed. I tested my son and his friend today- they breezed through and laughed at the first test!

It should be harder, people then were serious about becoming an american, to do so was a privilige and not a right.
